Mr. Jonathan W. French offered the report of the Special Com- mittee on Housing Units.

Mr. Stanley McLaughlin moved: That the Town approve a veter- ans' project by adopting the following vote:
1. That the form of contract entitled "CONTRACT WITH LOCAL BODY TO PROVIDE TEMPORARY HOUSING PURSUANT TO TITLE V (AS AMENDED) OF THE LANHAM ACT" on Form F.P.H.A. 1481, Rev. 3-18-46, which must be entered into with the Federal Public Housing Authority in order to secure from the Federal Public Housing Authority substantially 96 dwelling units for veterans' housing in the Town of Braintree, is here approved and all actions provided for in said form of contract are hereby authorized and approved.
2. That the Selectmen are hereby authorized to execute said con- tract in as many counterparts as may be necessary, and the Town Clerk is directed to affix the corporate seal of the Town to each exe- cuted counterpart and to attest the same.
3. That the Selectmen are hereby designated as the Board to carry out the provisions of Chapter 13 of the Acts of 1946 with regard to veterans' housing, and the Selectmen are hereby authorized to dele-

gate their powers to such person or persons as they may find neces- sary to carry out the purposes of that Act.
4. That there be raised and appropriated the sum of $14,960 for the purposes set forth in Article 64 and paragraphs 1 to 3, inclusive, of this note and that the powers of the Selectmen shall, under para- graph 3, include the power to appoint a separate custodian of any collected rents and profits who shall be empowered by them to disburse monies therefrom in accordance with said contract.

1. That the Employment Classification Plan contained in the Report of the Finance Committee on Article 6 be adopted for those officers, boards and employees of the Town therein listed, as amended,

the standard rate ranges shown in that report to be substituted for those adopted at the Special Town Meeting held on June 18, 1945.
2. That a charge be made for the use of the Town's ambulance in accordance with the following schedule:
$3.00 per trip in Braintree and contiguous cities and towns:
$10.00 per trip to Boston.
For round trips of over 25 miles, $10.00 per trip plus 25 cents per mile for each mile over 25;
such charges to be collected under the supervision of the Selectmen by such person as they may designate and the income therefrom to be segregated in a separate account on the Town's books, provided, always, that the Selectmen may, in their discretion, abate the charge in any case where its collection would constitute a financial hardship.

Mr. Mower moved: That the Moderator appoint a committee of five of whom one shall be a member of the Planning Board and one a member of the Board of Appeals to make a survey of, and to examine into, so much of the existing by-laws of the Town as deal with zoning, so-called, with authority to employ expert consultants to assist the committee, the report of the committee with its recommendations as to changes in said by-laws to be made to the Planning Board not later than January 1, 1947, and that the sum of $1,000.00 be raised and appropriated for the expenses of said committee.

Mr. Mower moved: That there be raised and appropriated the sum of $17,000 for the purpose of replacing the present steam pump at the Great Pond Pumping Station with a centrifugal pump, of installing an altitude valve at the West Street standpipe and of providing pumps and appurtenances for a booster station at Braintree Highlands under the direction of the Water Commissioners, and that to meet said appropriation the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be and is hereby authorized to borrow the sum of $17,000 and to issue bonds or notes of the Town therefor, said bonds or notes to be issued pursuant to Chapter 44 of the General Laws and to be payable in accordance with the provisions of Section 19 thereof so that the whole loan shall be paid in not more than five years from the date of issu- ance of the first bond or note or at such earlier date as the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, may determine, and that the Water Commissioners shall fix sufficient rates to meet the expenses of maintaining and operating the water supply system, including the interest and debt charges as they mature and the indebetdness herein authorized.

Mr. Mower moved: That there be placed under the exclusive con- trol of the Sewer Commissioners a parcel of land on Cleveland Avenue and Union Street, between the Monatiquot River and Cleveland Avenue, now held by the Town on tax title foreclosure proceedings, described as follows: Plots 1 and 2, Plan 2018, on file in the Assessor's Office, containing approximately 3.11 acres and 0.87 acres, respec- tively, a total of 3.98 acres of land.
So voted: 7.52.
ARTICLE 2.
Mr. Iliffe presented the following resolution:
WHEREAS: A number of our residents have given their lives in the Armed Services of our country during World War II, and
WHEREAS: We, the Citizens of Braintree, are desirous of ex- pressing our pride and gratitude in the sacrifices made by our fellow townsmen, and
WHEREAS: The Braintree Home Front Committee, Inc., has offered to defray the expenses of presenting to the next of kin of each of our fellow townsmen who have made the supreme sacrifice a tan- gible evidence of the reverence and honor in which the Citizens of Braintree hold their memory.
