Saugus, March 12th, 1900.
Meeting called to order by the Town Clerk at 8 o'clock P. M.
Art. I. Thomas P. Parsons was chosen Moderator. Sworn by Town Clerk.
Art. 2. Report of Free Delivery committee.
Your committee appointed at the last annual Town meet- ing to consider the advisability of asking for the extension of the free delivery of mails throughout the Town, and to report to this annual meeting, make the following report :-
It is the opinion of your committee, after carefully consid- ering the matter, by themselves, and also looking the field over with A. W. Machen, a Superintendent of the Free De- livery Service at Washington, that it would be beneficial to the inhabitants of Saugus to extend the free delivery system over the Town, and in the opinion of your committee this could be accomplished through the efforts of Congressman Ernest W. Roberts, if the citizens of Saugus would request it. Signed.

REPORT OF TOMB COMMITTEE.
Gentlemen :
Your committee appointed at "Special Town Meeting" of April 5th, 1899, to "consider the advisability of rebuilding and enlarging the Tomb," beg leave to make the following report:
Ist. It is our opinion that the Town should not attempt to enlarge or rebuild in any way the present tomb, as in our judgment the same is and would be altogether inadequate should we proceed to remodel. We have visited a number of tombs in different cities and towns costing from $12,000 down to $1600. The latter tomb is situated at Beverly and is built of brick with slate roof; is 25 feet square, and will accommo- date 64 bodies, so arranged that no two boxes come in con- tact with each other. Each catacomb consists of a white oak frame fitted with white oak rollers. The box is placed upon the rollers and is very easily handled. This tomb was built in 1891 at a total expense of $1533, and has fulfilled all require- ments of the City of Beverly to date. The Superintendent of
26

the Cemetery told your committee when the question was asked him, "Is there anything you would have done to this tomb to make it more convenient if you were to build today?" and he answered very promptly, No.
Therefore, your committee would most respectfully recom- mend that at such time as the Town cares to make an appro- priation for the building of a tomb, that a committee of not over three citizens be appointed with full power to proceed to locate and erect a tomb of similar size and style as herein described.
Respectfully yours,
J. S. MEACOM, J. H. PARKER, E. B. OLIVER.
