OVERSEERS' REPORT,
In submitting their annual report, the overseers feel that the financial showing at the Town Farm is a cause of congratula- tion to the citizens of the Town. While the report shows that the sum of $217.69 has been drawn from the Treasury for the support of the Farm, it should be borne in mind that the amount of personal property purchased this year is much larger than that.
Ten cows have been added to the stock the past year, mak- ing a herd of forty (40), all in prime condition. It will be necessary to keep this number as the purchaser of the milk re- quires not less than fifty cans per day. To a person familiar with the raising of milk this means a constant changing of cows, for as soon as a cow does not give the necessary amount of milk expected she must be sold for beef and a milch cow purchased to take her place.
A system of iron drinking troughs connected by pipes by which the cattle always have fresh water before them, has been put in at a cost of seventy-five dollars ($75). This was paid for from the proceeds of the farm, but is not included in the in- creased appraisal.
Total amount of orders drawn by the Overseers, $3,852.00, as follows:
For Insane $1,737 52
Partial support of 90 persons
1,803 83
Town Farm 217 69
Insurance
40 50
Town Physician 25 00
Incidentals 27 46
We would recommend that the sum of $4000 be appropri- ated to defray the expenses of the Overseers' Department for the ensuing year, also a special appropriation of $200 to build a milk room.
Respectfully submitted,
GEORGE FAULKNER, SOLON V. EDMANDS, WALTER L. LITTLE, Overseers of the Poor.
