*As it is in the Assessors' Department that the revenue of the Town is made, it is necessary that a thorough knowledge of its condition be obtained by this Committee, before making an intelligent recommendation for its needs. In view of what information the Finance Committee have been able to obtain to date, also that no report has yet been possible from the examination of its books, ordered by the Selectmen, and the uncer- tainty of the present Board of Assessors remaining for another year, the Finance Committee believe it would be unwise at this time to attempt to make any recommendation. Before the annual Town meeting in March, we shall have obtained much more information and a more complete knowledge of the situation, which will enable us to give an intelligent estimate at that time of the needs of this Department.
