ADJOURNED ANNUAL MEETING.
The adjourned meeting of the inhabitants of the town of Weymouth, was held at the Town hall on Monday, March 12, 1894, the meeting being called to order by the Moderator at 2 o'clock P. M.
ART. 27. Voted, That the compensation for collecting taxes be ¿ of 1%, and that the collector receive no other compensation.
ART. 28. Voted, That a committee of one from each ward be appointed by the Moderator to retire and nominate a list of per- sons to serve on the appropriation committee for the next annual meeting.

ART. 30. Voted, That the selectmen be instructed to act as attorneys to defend the town in any suit which may be brought against it.
ART. 31. In view of the fact that one of the Board of Selectmen for 1893 alleged before this meeting that the report of the committee for the suppression of the illegal sale of intoxicating liquors as submitted in the Printed Report is untrue and false and the committee maintaining that it is true, Voted, That the present board of Selectmen investigate the same, inquire into all the facts in the case and submit their report to the voters of this town either in Town Meeting, through the Public Press, or in any man- ner they may deem advisable.
Voted. That the matter of appropriation under this article be indefinitely postponed.
A motion to reconsider the above was lost.
Voted, That the Selectmen be instructed that in the appoint- ment of Police for the ensuing year, those appointed shall be in- structed to enforce all laws, especially those against the sale of intoxicating liquors and gambling.
ART. 32. Voted, To appropriate the sum of $5,500 for the purpose of paying a note of that amount becoming due the ensuing year.
Voted, that the |treasurer of the town of Weymouth be, and hereby is authorized to borrow, in its name, for its use, the sum of five thousand and five hundred dollars, and to make and issue

therefor the note of said town for a like sum, to be dated March 12th, 1894, and made payable in four years from its date, with interest at the rate of four per centum per annum, payable semi-annually.
ART. 33. Voted, That the article in relation to the appoint- ment of a Superintendent of Streets be left with the Selectmen.
ART. 34. Voted, That the town do purchase a stone crusher and roller and steam power, with screens and elevator, also to purchase a gravelhill or hills or ledges for the purpose of improving our roads.
Voted, That a committee of one from each Ward be. appointed by the Moderator to nominate a committee of three from each Ward to carry the above vote into effect.
The Moderator appointed the following persons on the above committee viz :- John F. Dwyer, Josiah Reed, Wm. A. Drake, S. S. Spear, Michael Sheehy.
The above committee recommend the following persons to serve on the committee to carry the vote passed under the article into effect, viz. :

ART. 35. Voted, To raise and appropriate the sum of $300, for the working of Tower avenue.
ART. 36. Voted, To raise and appropriate the sum of $250, for the purpose of building a sidewalk on Main street, beyond the house of the late Andrew Casey.
ART. 37. Voted, That the selectmen be instructed that in the employment of teams on the highway, an equal division of work be given to owners of teams in the different wards.
ART. 38. Voted, That this article be indefinitely postponed.

ART. 39. Voted, That the board of selectmen be instructed to pay $2.00 per day for able bodied men for work performed for the town, whether by contract or otherwise, and preference be given to townspeople, and that nine hours shall constitute a day's work ; also that they shall receive their pay semi-monthly.
Voted, That the selectmen in each ward of the town be request- ed to keep a list of all persons who may apply for work on the roads of the town, and draw upon such list from time to time for workmen, with a view to a more equitable division of labor than has heretofore been in vogue. This list shall also contain a list of horse and cart owners, in like manner to be served. Further, that all persons so employed on the roads of the town shall be paid directly by the several selectmen of each ward who will take their individual receipt therefor.
ART. 40. Voted, To raise and appropriate the sum of $350 for the purchase of a hose wagon to be located at Lovell's Corner.
Voted, That the engineer of the Fire department in Ward 4, and the foreman of the company at Lovell's Corner, be a com- mittee to purchase the same.
Voted, To adjourn to Monday, March 19th, at 2 o'clock P. M.

SECOND ADJOURNED ANNUAL MEETING.
The second adjourned annual meeting of the inhabitants of the town of Weymouth was held at the Town Hall on Monday, March 19, 1894, the meeting being called to order at two o'clock P. M., by Louis A. Cook, Esq., the Moderator.
Voted, To take up Art. 34.
Voted, To raise and appropriate the sum of $2,000, and to ap- propriate the sum of $3,000 for the purpose of purchasing a stone

crusher, steam roller, etc., in accordance with the vote passed under this article at the meeting of the town held March 12 inst.
Voted, That the treasurer of the town of Weymouth is hereby authorized to borrow in its name, and for its use, the sum of $3,000 and to make an issue therefor three several notes of said town, each for the sum of $1,000, to be dated June 1, 1894, and made payable respectively in two years, three years and five years from said date, with interest at the rate of four percentum per annumi, pay- ·able semi-annually.
ART. 41. Voted, That the sum of $200 be raised and appro- priated for the purpose of conveying the scholars living on Sum- mer street, south of Federal street, to the respective schools in Ward 3, and that the School Committee be authorized to hire con- veyance, and that the same go into effect April 1. Also that this privilege of having conveyance be allowed said scholars each coming year.
ART. 42. Voted, That the article in relation to the placing of electric lights on Pond street, from near the depot to Poole's cor- ner be referred to the Committee on Electric Lighting.
ART. 43. Voted, That the article in relation to laying a water main from Columbian street to Braintree be referred to the Water Commissioners.
ART. 44. Voted, That the article in relation to extending the water pipes from Mount Hope Cemetery gate through Pine, Park and Oak streets be referred to the Water Commissioners.
ART. 45. Voted, That the Selectmen be instructed to petition the Massachusetts Highway Commission, to acquire and build as a State Highway the road from Fore River Bridge at Pine Point in the Town of Weymouth, to the southerly part of Cohasset, in the County of Norfolk, and to appropriate the sum of $50.00 for that purpose.
ART. 46. Voted, This article in relation to the Assessors em- ploying a clerk, was not carried.
ART. 47. Voted, That in the reading of the report of the

ART. 51. By a two-thirds vote, voted to accept and allow the the Report of the Park Commissioners of Weymouth, locating a public park, and taking in fee therefore the land now or late of James L. Bates, extending from Neck street to the summit of Weymouth Great Hill.

Whereas, the undersigned, duly appointed and qualified as the Board of Park Commissioners of the town of Weymouth, in said County of Norfolk, under and by virtue of the provisions of an act of the Legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. entitled "An act authorizing towns and cities to lay out public parks within their limits," being chapter one hundred and fifty- four of the Acts of the year 1882, deem it desirable and expedient to take in fee the land hereinafter described for the purposes and under the powers and limitations set forth in said act.
Now therefore, we, the said Board of Park Commissioners by virtue of the authority conferred upon us by said act, and of any and every other power and authority us hereto in any wise enabling, an appropriation sufficient to cover the estimated ex- pense of the taking thereof having been made by a vote of two thirds of the legal voters present and voting in a legal town meet- ing of said town of Weymouth called for the purpose, have taken and do hereby take in the name of the said town of Weymouth

for a public park in manner prescribed in and by said act, the parcel of land and rights in said land, which is hereinafter de- scribed, according to a plan marked " Plan of the land of James L. Bates, situated on Weymouth Great Hill, Weymouth, Mass., Nash and Hunter, Civil Engineers, Boston, Mass.," to be re- corded herewith in the office of the town clerk of said Weymouth.
Said parcel of land is situated on Neck street in said Wey- mouth, and is bounded and described as follows :-
Beginning at a point on the easterly side of Neck street in said Weymouth, at a corner of land of William L. Bradley, and thence running by magnetic courses S. 88 deg. 15 min. N. one thousand one hundred and ninety-five and fifty-two hundreths (1,195.52) feet along the division line, between lands of James L. Bates and said Bradley to an angle, thence running S. 7 deg. 30 min. W. two hundred and seventy-nine and one-tenth (279.1) feet still on the division line between said Bates and Bradley to and an angle at a corner of land of the devisees under the will of Elizabeth F. Hard- wick, deceased, thence running N. 88 deg. 15 min. E. eight hun- dred and eighty-three and five-tenths (883.5) feet on the line of division between the lands of said Bates and land of the devisees under the will of said Hardwick to an angle; thence running S. 59 deg. E., one hundred and twenty and five-tenths (120.5) feet still on the line of division between the lands of said Bates and land of said devisees of said Hardwick to a stone bound in the westerly line of Neck street; thence running N. 30 deg. 8 min. E. two hundred and fourteen and three hundreths (214.03) feet along said Neck street to an angle; thence running N. 40 deg. 14 min. E. two hundred and thirteen and eight tenths (213.8) feet the point of beginning. Said tract contains three hundred and eight thousand and sixty-seven square feet. Said land so far as known belongs to James L. Bates of said Weymouth.
We estimate and determine the damages sustained by the said James L. Bates by the taking of said tract of land in the sum of eight hundred dollars ($800.)
To have and to hold the said parcel of land to the said town of Weymouth to its sole use forever, for the purposes and agreeably to the provisions of said act.

ART. 52. Voted, That the sum of $2,500 be raised and appro- priated to heat and ventilate the Hunt schoolhouse and the Lin- coln schoolhouse, under the direction of the state inspector.

Voted, That a committee of fifteen, three from each ward, be appointed to consider the subject of the consolidation of the North and South High schools ; said committee to report at the next annual town-meeting, whether in their judgment such consolidation will be advisable and practicable, and to make rec- ommendations to the town concerning the same.

ART. 57. Voted, to raise and appropriate the sum of $200 for the working of a new street off Broad street, known as Foyes avenue.
ART. 58. This article in relation to the working of Phillips street extension was not carried.
ART. 59. Voted, To raise and appropriate the sum of $250, to extend and finish the sidewalk on the southerly side of Randolph street, that was laid out by the County Commissioners from the dam to the schoolhouse.
ART. 60. Voted, To raise and appropriate the sum of $200, to complete the street known as Torreys Lane in Ward 3.
ART. 61. Voted, That the Selectmen be instructed to audit the bills of the assessors of 1893 for expenses, and if correct, that they be paid.
Voted, To take up article 47.
Voted, To reconsider the vote whereby it was voted to dispense with the reading of the description in the report of the Selectmen in laying out a new street from Sea to Bridge street.
Voted, To reconsider the vote, whereby it was voted to accept the above report.
After the reading of the report it was voted to accept the same.
Voted, Not to accept the resignation of Judge Humphrey from the committee on appropriations.
Mr. L. B. Curtis, having resigned from the committee on stone crusher, it was voted that the name of John A. Holbrook be added to the committee.
Voted, To take up article 52.
Voted, To reconsider the vote whereby it was voted to raise and appropriate the sum of $2,500 to heat and ventilate the IIunt and Lincoln schoolhouses.
Voted, To raise and appropriate the som of $2,500 to heat and ventilate the Hunt schoolhouse and the Lincoln schoolhouse, if ex- pedient under the directions of the State Inspectors.

In the name of said Commonwealth you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of Weymouth aforesaid, qualified to vote in elections, to meet at the Town House in said town, on Friday, the eighth day of June next, at eight o'clock in the after- noon, then and there to act on the following articles, viz :
ARTICLE 1. To chose a Moderator for said meeting.
AKT 2. On petition of Geo. H. Cunningham and 17 others, "To see if the town will vote to appropriate the sum of $800 for the purpose of lowering the grade of Middle street at the corner of Broad street in Ward 2."
ART. 3. On petition of Thomas Fitzgerald and others, "To see if the town will vote to extend Phillips street to Prospect street as laid out, and that the sum of $250 be raised and appro- priated for the same."
And you are directed to serve this warrant, by posting attested copies thereof, in three public places in each ward in said town seven days at least before the time of holding said meeting.

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING.
Pursuant to the foregoing warrant a legal meeting of the inhab- itants of the town of Weymouth, qualified to vote in elections, was held in the Town Hall on Friday, June 8th, 1894, at 8 o'clock P. M., the meeting being called to order and the warrant read by the Town Clerk.
ARTICLE 1. Louis A. Cook, Esq., was elected Moderator by ballot, the check list being used in said election.
The Moderator appointed Francis A. Bicknell and Michael Sheehy as tellers and administered the oath to them.
ART. 2. A motion was made to appropriate the sum of $500 for the purpose of lowering the grade of Middle street at the corner of Broad street but it was not carried, for the reason that one hundred voters did not vote in the affirmative as required by the By-laws of the town, the result being, yes 69, no 27. ART 3. A motion was made to raise and appropriate the sum of $250 for the purpose of extending Phillips street to Prospect street, but this motion was not carried for the same reason given in article 2, the result being yes 43, no 32.
Voted, That when the meeting adjourns it be to the Engine Hall in Ward 2 on Monday next at 8 o'clock P. M.

ENGINE HALL, WARD 2, June 11, 1894. An adjourned meeting of the inhabitants of the town of Wey- mouth was held at the above hall this evening at 8 o'clock P. M.
Voted, To take up article 2.
A motion was made to reconsider the vote whereby the town refused to appropriate the sum of $400 for the purposes men- tioned in article 2, but it was not carried, one hundred voters not voting in the affirmative, the result of the vote being yes 71, no 7.
