REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE CHOSEN AT THE ANNUAL TOWN MEETING, MARCH 12, 1906, TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE RE- MOVAL OF THE TOWN HOUSE, TO THE CON- GREGATIONAL CHURCH GROUNDS AT EAST WEYMOUTH.
The committee chosen were J. Clarence Howe, Walter W. Pratt, Arthur W. Bartlett, Peter W. French, Edward W. Hunt. The committee met May 3, 1906, and organized, J. Clarence Howe, Chairman : Walter W. Pratt, Clerk.
At a special Town Meeting held later an appropriation of eleven thousand dollars was made for removing said Town House. The committee received several proposals for removing the same which were not satisfactory; later, proposals were received for removing the same by taking the Town House down and rebuild- ing it, by H. H. Tozier of Lynn, the lowest bidder, for the sum of eight thousand three hundred dollars, as per contract, the house to be taken down in a careful manner, and rebuilt in its original formn and position. As the work progressed it soon be- came evident that it would be economy to make some further changes and improvements, and an additional contract was made of three hundred and fifty dollars for certain improvements with- out exceeding the original appropriation. After that, other im- provements were suggested, and at a special town meeting later, two thousand one hundred dollars were appropriated, and in con- nection with these improvements an arrangement was made with Mr. Tozier, the contractor, to take the old Town House lot and sheds at two hundred and fifty dollars, making the sum total of the appropriations thirteen thousand three hundred and fifty dollars.

REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON NEW SCHOOL BUILDING AT LOVELL'S CORNER.
To the Citizens of the Town of Weymouth.
Your Committee desire at this time to make a partial report of the progress of the work upon the new Four-room School Building at Lovell's Corner.
At a special meeting held May 18, 1906, in Odd Fellows' Opera House, East Weymouth, it was voted to raise by loan and appro- priate $13,000 and further appropriate the proceeds from the sale of the Pratt and Holbrook school houses and lots for the purpose of purchasing a suitable lot and erecting thereon a suitable four- room school building in that part of Weymouth known as Lovell's Corner.
The following Committee were appointed to carry the same into effect : Walter Pratt, C. H. Lovell, Charles Hawes, Alonzo Pratt, John Reardon, H. B. Reed, G. L. Barnes, John Hanley and F. W. Rea.
On May 1 the Building Committee met in the vestry of the Porter Church and organized by the choice of Walter W. Pratt, Chairman, and Francis W. Rea, Secretary.
The following sub-Committee were authorized and duly ap- pointed :
Committee on Purchasing Lot-W. Pratt, John Reardon, Chas. H. Lovell, Chas. Hawes, John Hanley and Frank Rea.
Committee on Plans and Specifications-H. B. Reed, Geo. L. Barnes and Alonzo Pratt.
Committee on Fence-W. W. Pratt.
Committee on Furniture-H. B. Reed and John Reardon.
Committee on Shades-C. H. Lovell and W. W. Pratt.
The Committee on plans visited several out-of-town four-room school buildings and also received plans from seven first-class architects, the plans having previously been sent to the Clerk of Selectmen, and all names being concealed they were presented to the 'full Committee by numbers. The Committee, after studying
238
the plans, unanimously chose plan No. 3, which proved to be the plan of Hurd & Gore, Boston.
Bids were received on July 14, seven bids ranging from $10,290 to $17,150 ; also bids for heating and ventilating, ranging from $2,290 to $2,497.
Mr. Tozier being the lowest bidder, the Committee asked Mr. Tozier and his foreman to meet them at a future date.
The final bid of Mr. Tozier was $11,665 complete, including heating and ventilating.
Mr. Tozier and Hurd & Gore, architects, met, and modified specifications so as to bring the cost complete within the appro- priation of the town meeting.
The Committee selected for a site of the new building a fine three and one-half acre lot, for the sum of $800, on Pleasant street, a short distance from the Pratt School Building. The grounds are ample for play-grounds and ball-field, with model play-houses among the rocks for the little ones.
Two sides of the lot have been fenced with a Page woven wire fence, so that the building shows up prominently from the main street as one approaches in either direction, and with its pic- turesque foreground and background, its walks and a well-grassed lawn in front, the building will present a fine appearance when completed.
Setting back some distance from the street the building will have two main entrances, one for the boys and one for the girls, while in the rear will be the play yards with separate entrances to the basement for the boys and girls and to the boiler room.
The building is of wood frame with roofs and walls covered with shingles which are to be left to weather, while the trimmings are painted white. The underpinning is of Weymouth seam face granite and the chimneys of brick. The entrances, one on either side of the front, have covered porches supported by columns. and the outside steps are few in number to avoid accident in icy weather. Between these entrances is the tablet with the name " PRATT SCHOOL " in gold letters.
