As directed by you I have made an examination of the Books and accounts of the Treasurer of the Town of Weymouth for the period from June 24, 1936 the date of the previous audit, to December 19, 1936, and report thereon as follows:
The books and accounts of the Town Treasurer were examined and checked in detail. The recorded receipts were analyzed and checked with the Accountant's books with the records of the several departments collecting money for the Town, and with the other sources from which money is paid into the Town Treasury. The recorded payments were checked with the Selectmen's warrants authorizing the disbursement of Town funds and with the Accountant's records.
The cash book footings were verified and the cash balance at the close of business on December 19, 1936, was proved by actual count of the cash in the office and by a reconciliation of the bank balances with statements and certifications furnished by the banks of deposit.
The payments on account of maturing debt and interest were proved with the amounts falling due during the period of the audit and were checked with the cancelled securities and coupons on file. The out- standing coupons as of December 19, 1936 were listed; and reconciled with the balance in the bond and coupon account as shown by a certi- ficate furnished by the bank of deposit.
The securities and savings bank books representing the investments of the several trust and investment funds in the custody of the Town Treasurer were personally examined the income being proved and the disbursements verified. The balance as of December 19, 1936, as shown by the savings bank books were verified with certificates received from the bank of deposit.
