REPORT OF THE BOARD OF APPEAL
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen: Gentlemen:
The Board of Appeal held 9 meetings during the year and considered 19 applications brought before it.
Each application was carefully studied as to nature of the building, its location with reference to adjacent property, as a possible fire risk, and in regard to the effect upon the buildings of abutting owners if the petition was granted.
Fourteen of the applications were granted upon the condition that the written consent of abutting owners be obtained or upon the condition that a wall be made fireproof, and five as submitted to the Board were rejected.
Respectfully submitted, RUSSELL H. WHITING

REPORT OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH
To the Citizens of the Town of Weymouth:
Gentlemen:
Herewith is submitted the annual report of the Board of Health.
The Board met and organized in March. Thomas MacDonald was elected chairman and Fred L. Doucette clerk, Dr. Lewis Pease the newly elected member making the third member of the Board. George Marshall was appointed Inspector of Plumbing for three years.
Henry Godin was appointed Milk Inspector and Jeramiah Donovan, custodian of the dumps. Catherine Pratt was appointed Public Health Nurse, Virginia Loring was appointed Dental Hygienist, this clinic is held in the Hunt School, Weymouth, and was a much needed and is a very important work.
The general health of the citizens has been very good during the year with no serious epidemic. There has been no cases of diphtheria reported in the last twelve months, this is the first time since the Board of Health was organized that the Town has been free from this contagious disease. This is due to the immunizing of the children in the lower grades of the schools. This work has been carried out by the School Committee and Board of Health.
During the year the following contagious diseases were reported.
Anterior Poliomyelitis 1 Mumps 6
Chicken Pox 9 Scarlet Fever
34
Diphtheria 0 Tuberculosis (Pulmonary) 13
Dog Bite 49 Tuberculosis (Other Cases) 2
Spinal Meningitis 2 Whooping Cough 3
Pneumonia (Lobar) 5 Sufferative Orijunctisits 1
Measles 80 Cat Bite 1
During the year a great many complaints were investigated, these were mostly in regard to overflowing cesspools, and dumping of refuse and garbage along the public way. There is a steady increase in the number of dog bites and the Board recommends that all dogs be inoculated against rabies.
Respectfully submitted,
THOMAS MacDONALD

REPORT OF THE VISITING NURSE ASSOCIATION
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
Gentlemen:
1
The Weymouth Visiting Nurse Association has completed twenty-two years of successful work in this community and the secretary respectfully submits the following report.
There have been ten regular meetings of the Board of Directors with an average attendance of fourteen.
The Treasury, although sound is not in a good financial standing. This is due entirely to lack of support in the membership drive and tag day. There are only 333 members of this Association in this town. A member is a person who pays the fee of $1.00.
The baby clinic is a flourishing and gratifying project. There have been 52 clinics in 1936 with 1,030 babies attending. There were 168 new babies' names added to the roles.
Mrs. Pratt and Miss Wilbur the Visiting Nurses, have had an exception- ally busy year. They cared for 1,143 patients making 5,715 calls during 1936, 2,644 of which were free.
During the year, the Association had the misfortune to lose two persons who were milestones in the success of the organization; one a past president, Mrs. F. Mills Dodge, and the other one of the founders, Mrs. Elbridge Nash.
Respectfully submitted, BEATRICE WARREN BICKNELL Secretary
