Voted, That the Town do authorize its Overseers of the Poor to contract at their discretion for the support of the Town's poor.

ARTICLE 6


Voted, That the Town do authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow during the financial year beginning January 1, 1927, in anticipation of the collection of revenue of said year, such sums of money as may be necessary for the current expenses of the Town, but not exceeding the limit fixed by law, giving the note or notes of the Town therefor, payable within one year from the dates thereof, and to renew such note or notes as may be given for a less period than one year, providing the limit of one year is not exceeded thereby. All debts incurred under this authority shall be paid from the revenue of the then current year.

ARTICLE 7


To hear the report of any committee heretofore chosen,. or act thereon.


Voted, To accept the report of the Committee on Lighting as printed in the Town Report, and that the Committee be continued.


Report on the traffic question and parking at Scituate Harbor.


Voted, To accept the report.


ARTICLE 8


Voted, That the Town do authorize the Selectmen to prosecute, compromise or defend any suit or suits within the Commonwealth in the name of the Town.


ARTICLE 9


Voted, That the Town do instruct its Selectmen to control, regulate or prohibit the taking of eels, clams, quahogs, razor fish and scallops within the Town of Scituate, in accordance with Chapter 91, Section 85, Revised Laws, as amended by Acts of 1913, Chapter 517, and further amended by Acts of 1915, Chapter 86, General Laws.

ARTICLE 10


Voted, That the Town do authorize the Selectmen to contract for the part-time service of a Public Health Nurse to be employed under the direction of the Board of Health, Overseers of the Poor and School Committee, and that $1,200 be raised for that purpose.


ARTICLE 11


Will the Town vote to establish the salaries and com- pensation of all elected Town Officers or act thereon?


Voted, Selectmen, $500 for each member and legiti- mate expenses; $100 additional for Chairman from General Government.


Overseers of the Poor, $125 for each member and legitimate expenses from General Government.


Assessors, $500 for each member and legitimate expenses; $1,500 additional for Chairman and $500 for clerical assistance from General Government.


Highway Surveyor, $2,400, he to furnish his own conveyance while in the performance of his duties, and bear the expense of same. To be taken out of the appro- priation for care of roads.


School Committee, $100 for each member and legiti- mate expenses from Education.


Town Clerk, $800 and legitimate expenses from General Government.


Tax Collector, $1,800 and legitimate expenses from General Government.


Treasurer, $1,200 and legitimate expenses from General Government.


Tree Warden, $300.


Board of Health. Voted, That the sum of $1,000 be paid to the Board of Health for the full salary for all the members of the Board; and this sum shall include their charges for all services performed by them or either of them, other than Inspector of Plumbing, Inspector of Meat and Inspector of Cattle from appropriation for Board of Health.

Voted, To indefinitely postpone.

Voted, To put the care and custody of the Civic Center grounds in the Board of Park Commissioners.


Voted, To raise and appropriate the sum of $1,800 for the purpose.


Voted, That $700 in addition as voted in the estimated expenses under Park Commission be applied to this article.


ARTICLE 14


Voted, That the Town do authorize the Park Com- mission in conjunction with the School Committee to make rules and regulations governing the use of the Civic Center.


ARTICLE 15


Voted, $500 to continue the filling in and grading of the park off Bailey's Causeway.


ARTICLE 16


Voted, $2,000 for the continuance of the work on the Town Plan.


ARTICLE 17


Voted, $300 to be expended under the direction of the Clean-Up Committee.

Voted, $20,000 for the repairs and rebuilding of high- ways under the direction of the committee heretofore chosen, and the amount of $20,000 be assessed in the tax levy of the current year.

· Voted, To accept the layout of the Selectmen, making Cherry Lane from its intersection with Grasshopper Lane to Ocean Avenue a Town way and that it be referred to the Committee on Roads.

Voted, To accept the layout of the Selectmen, making Crescent Avenue from its intersection with Bridge Avenue, · to that portion of Crescent Avenue already laid out.


ARTICLE 23


Voted, That the Town accept the layout of the Select- men making Sea View Avenue from Otis Road to Hatherly Road a Town way.


ARTICLE 24


Voted, That the Town accept the layout of the Select- men, making Oceanside Drive, between Fourth Avenue and the southerly side of Eleventh Avenue a Town way, referred to the Committee on Roads.


ARTICLE 25


Voted, That the Town accept the layout of the Select- men, widening the southerly side of Turner Avenue, opposite the residence of Catherine Mahoney.

Voted, That the Town accept the layout of the Select- men, making Lawson Road from its intersection with Beaver Dam Road to end of a former layout.

Voted, That the Town accept the layout of the Select- men, making Hillside Road from Captain Pierce Road to Woodland Road and Woodland Road from Hillside Road to Captain Pierce Road, Town ways.


ARTICLE 28


Voted, That the Town accept the layout of the Select- men, making Collier Avenue from its intersection with Ocean Avenue to its westerly terminus a Town way.


ARTICLE 29


Voted, That the Town accept the layout of the Select- men, changing the layout of the highway at the corner of Clapp Road and Summer Street, and at the same time awarded the sum of $15 to Elwood M. Litchfield for land taken for said highway; to Hattie M. Litchfield, in exchange for land taken on the south side of Clapp Road, 2,200 square feet more or less, release to her a like amount (2,200 square feet) on the north side of Clapp Road.


ARTICLE 30


Voted, To accept the layout of the Selectmen, making Buttonwood Lane, formerly called Front Street from Bailey's Causeway to North Avenue a Town way.


ARTICLE 31


Voted, That the Town accept the layout of the Select- men, making Mitchell Avenue from Surfside Road to a point at the westerly line of the new fire-station lot, as recorded at the Town Clerk's office, a Town way, at the same time award to the persons whose lands are taken for

said highway, or who suffer damages on account thereof, the sums hereafter named, to be paid from the Town treasury as soon as said Town shall enter upon and posses- sion take of said lands for the purpose of constructing said highway as aforesaid, to wit: Lennity B. Mitchell, 659 feet of land, $100; Eva L. Graves, 723 feet of land, $175.


ARTICLE 32


To see if the Town will vote to accept the following layout of the Selectmen, and to acquire land for a Town way, and appropriate such sums of money for the estimated expense thereof, and to transfer from any available funds, or to borrow as authorized by law, or take any action relative thereto.


Recorded in Volume 31, page 17 for description.


Voted, That the Town accept the layout.


Beginning at a point on the easterly side of Front Street, south 23° 56' west (89.7) feet distant from a stone- bound marking the angle point in said Front Street, etc.


At the same time awarded to the several persons and corporations whose lands are taken for said highway or who suffer damages on account thereof, the several sums hereafter. named, to be paid from the Town treasury as soon as said Town shall enter upon and possession take of said lands for the purpose of constructing said highway as aforesaid, to wit:


Doris M. Stenbeck claims no damage.


Christopher O'Neil, Jr., claims no damage.


Catherine Ward claims no damage, if land is properly drained.


Paul and Louise Simeone claim no damage.


Scituate Amusement Company claim no damage.

Voted, Not to change the name of Michael Avenue at Rivermoor.


ARTICLE 34


Voted, $450 to build a sidewalk curbing from the Humane Building on the easterly side of Front Street, run- ning south to Edward Foster Road, and turning the corner of said road for a distance of ten to fifteen feet.


ARTICLE 35


Voted, $200 for the use of the Plymouth County Trustees for County Aid to Agriculture.


Voted, For Town Director, Robert Tilden.


ARTICLE 36


Voted, To appropriate and transfer the sum of $1,047.74 from the Excess and Deficiency Account to take care of the overdrafts of 1924 and 1925.


ARTICLE 37


Voted, $400 from the excess and deficiency account, to pay for land taken from Arthur R. Merritt, on the layout of Lawson Road, corner of Curtis Street.


ARTICLE 38


Voted, $72 to install six street lights (for the summer months) at Hatherly Beach, viz .: one on Oceanside Drive, one on Third Avenue, one on Garden Road, one on Fay Road, one on Irving Road and one on Jay Road, included in amount of money raised for Street Lighting, and the

committee be instructed to install street lights under Articles 38, 41 and 54.


ARTICLE 39


Voted, $750 to raise the grade of Central Avenue, Humarock, at the northerly end of the Beach.


ARTICLE 40


To see if the Town will vote to accept the offer of $100, made by E. L. Willard for the gravel pit on Gannett Road. Voted, To indefinitely postpone.


ARTICLE 41


Voted, $100 for the installation of five street lights on Mann Lot Road, North Scituate, to be placed on the fol- lowing poles: Nos. 13, 19, 23, 30 and 39; said amount included in the amount of money raised under estimated expenses for street lighting, and that the committee be instructed to install five lights under Article 41.


ARTICLE 42


To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of $7,000 for the extention of the fire-alarm system.


Voted, No, in favor forty, against one hundred.


ARTICLE 43


Voted, That the Town authorize the Selectmen to petition the Legislature for permission to pay to the families of the three firemen who were killed December 24, 1925, an amount equal to the sum specified under the Workmen's Compensation Account, and raise and appropriate $2,496 for the purpose.


ARTICLE 44


Voted, To indefinitely postpone the installation of three hydrants at Hatherly Beach.

Voted, That the Town accept the provisions of Chapter 66, Acts of 1923, making the Tax Collector's term of office three years.

Voted, That the Town do release to the First Parish Church of Scituate, any right, title or interest it may have in the lot of land on First Parish Road on which the church stands.

Voted, That the Town appoint a committee to investi- gate concerning the building of an Administration Building and report at some future meeting, and raise and appro- priate the sum of $300, to be expended by the committee.


ARTICLE 51


Voted, That the Town appropriate and transfer from the Excess and Deficiency Account the sum of $6.60 to meet a 1924 bill of the Bay State Nurseries; $70.20 for Leon Hatch for police work in 1924, and $5.25 for Eugene H. Lane for watching fire in 1924.

Voted, $100 to install five lights on Elm Street (included in estimated expenses) under the direction of the Committee on Street Lighting.

To see if the Town will put all new road work out at contract to lowest responsible bidder.

Voted, That the Town rescind its vote of March 2, 1925, whereby the Selectmen were instructed to sell the gravel pit on Gannett Road to Edgar L. Willard.

In Town Meeting assembled, it was unanimously voted, that a committee of three, Mr. Frederic T. Bailey, Mr. Walter Haynes and Mrs. Martha S. Mitchell visit Hon. Harvey H. Pratt at Beverly, Town Counsel for many years, and a resident of Scituate, with words of cheer and sympathy and the best wishes for his early recovery from a long and serious illness.
