TOWN MEETING RECORDS


Annual Town Meeting, March 10, 1958


Meeting called to order at 7:34 P.M. by Moderator Roger H. Wingate, who read the call for the meeting.


On motion by Gardner C. Reed:


Voted: That further reading of the warrant be dispensed with.


Constable's return read by the Town Clerk.


The Moderator called upon Reverend Forrest Musser of the First Congregational Church, who offered the opening prayer. This was an innovation in Wakefield town meetings, for many years at least.


Unanimous consent was granted to Mr. Bonito, of 21 Stark Avenue, to attend the meeting. Acceptance of Stark Avenue as public way is in- cluded in the warrant for this meeting.


A statement of the financial condition of the town and explanation of the reasons for the finance committee recommendations was read by Chairman Gardner C. Reed of the Finance Committee.


ARTICLE 1


To act upon the report of the town officers as published.


On motion by Gardner C. Reed, Chairman of the Finance Committee:


Voted: That the report of the town officers as published be accepted.


ARTICLE 2


To choose all town officers not required to be chosen by ballot. On motion by Finance Committee:


Voted: That the Moderator appoint a committee of five to bring in nominations for those town officers not required to be elected by ballot.


The Moderator named the following persons to serve on said committee: Robert H. Gardner, William E. Jefferson, Albert J. Petrucci, Scott A. Bul- lard, Carl A. Peterson, Jr.


ARTICLE 3


To see if the town will vote to authorize the town treasurer, with the approval of the selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipa- tion of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1958, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 4, Chapter 44, General Laws. - Paul Lazzaro and others.


On motion by Finance Committee:

Any regular, permanent employee of the town shall be entitled to receive additional pay to the extent of accumulated sick leave when the provisions of Workingmen's Compensation are applicable, provided that such pay shall not exceed the difference between the amount paid by Workingmen's Compensation and the regular pay of the employee.

To see if the town will vote to authorize and instruct the Board of Selectmen to purchase or take by right of eminent domain under Chapter 79 of the General Laws, for school purposes, certain parcels of land in the town, lying south of Albion Street, bounded and described as follows:


Parcel 1. Beginning at a point on the easterly sideline of a private way known as Paul Avenue, said point being one hundred twenty (120) feet south of the southerly sideline of Albion Street, thence the line runs Easterly about one hundred forty-nine (149) feet by land now or formerly of Henry F. Galvin etux and James E. Crosby etux; thence Southerly fifty-six and 15/100 (56.15) feet by land now or formely of William L. Wen- zell etux; thence Easterly by said land of Wenzell about one hundred forty-one (141) feet; thence Northerly along the westerly sideline of a private way known as Doyle Avenue about seventy-four (74) feet; thence across Doyle Avenue about forty-two (42) feet to the lot corner of lots D6 and D10 as shown on Assessors' Plat 9; thence Easterly about one hundred ninety-one and 50/100 (191.50) feet by land now or formerly of Martin B. Graham etux and Herbert C. MacDonald etux to the westerly sideline of a right of way; thence Southeasterly along said right of way about one hundred forty (140) feet; thence Scuthwesterly by land now or formerly of Constance M. Doyle about two hundred fifty-five (255) feet to the east- erly sideline of Doyle Avenue; thence Southerly along said easterly sideline of Doyle Avenue in several course about five hundred sixteen (516) feet to land now or formerly of Alice G. White heirs; thence Westerly by land of said White heirs about three hundred eleven (311) feet; thence Northerly by land of said White heirs about two hundred forty-nine (249) feet to the corner of lots 8 and 6B as shown on Assessors' Plat 9; thence by land of Nicholas DeMartini etux about one hundred ninety-seven (197) feet; thence Easterly forty (40) feet to the point of beginning. The above-de- scribed land is shown as Lots D8 and D10 through D24, inclusive on Assess- ors' Plat 9, and contains about four (4) acres.
