SCONTICUT NECK PLAYGROUND

Article 50

James Medeiros, Chairman of the Sconticut Neck Playground Com- mittee gave the following report:

On October 5th, this committee held its first of many meetings. Our aims and purposes were discussed and procedure that was to be followed. We first met with the Park Board to find out how large an area would be needed. We then met with the Board of Assessors to get valuations of various properties. We looked at land from the Head of Sconticut Neck Road down to Wilbur's Point. The property that we are in unanimous approval of taking is known as the Alden Property. It is ideal for a playground, almost centrally located, easily accessible, and in very good shape. No homes are on it and it could be put to almost immediate use. This area would serve the greatest number of people. After deciding on this area, we met with the Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee. We understand that the Planning Board is in favor of a playground on Sconticut Neck.

We believe that now is the time to act. Land is slowly depleting in the Neck area due to the growth of the area. If something is not done now, there may not be an area large enough to contain a playground in the near future, without higher costs.
