Section 1. Each city and town clerk shall receive or obtain and rec-
* facts relative to the births * * * * in his city or town. ord *
Section 3. (as amended by Chapter 93, Acts of 1910) Physicians and midwifes shall make and keep a record of all facts relative to births specified in section one of this chapter and shall, on or before the fifth day of each month, report to the clerk of each city or town a correct list of all children born therein during the preceding month at whose birth they were present.
Section 4. A member or servant of a family in which a child is born, who has knowledge of the facts required * shall furnish the * *
same upon request of the clerk of the city or town * or of any * * person authorized by him. Penalty for refusal not more than ten dollars. Section 6. Parents, within forty days after the birth of a child, * # shall cause notice thereof to be given to the clerk of the city or town in which such child is born.
Every householder is required to give notice of a birth occurring in his house.

ANNUAL MEETING. MARCH 2, 1914.
Pursuant to a warrant issued by the Selectmen, the inhabi- tants of the town of Medfield, duly warned and notified in the manner prescribed by law, met at the Town Hall on the sec- ond day of March, 1914, at six o'clock in the forenoon; and the following action was taken upon the several articles in said warrant :-
ARTICLE 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.
The annually elected Moderator being present no action was necessary.
ART. 2. To choose the following named town officers, under the provisions of the Revised Statutes of 1907, namely : one Town Clerk, one Moderator, one Treasurer, one Collector of Taxes, three Selectmen, five Constables, one Tree Warden, one Auditor, all for one year; one School Committee for three years, two Trustees of the Public Library for three years, one Cemetery Commissioner for three years, one Assessor for three years, one member of the Board of Health for three years.
Also to vote on the following question : Shall license be granted to sell intoxicating liquors in the town for the ensuing year? the vote to be "Yes" or "No." All the above to be voted for on one ballot. The polls to be opened at six o'clock in the forenoon and may close at two o'clock in the afternoon.
The ballot-box was examined and found in good order. The following-named persons, having been appointed by the Selectmen, were sworn and assigned as follows :-
Isaac B. Codding and Frank J. Bell to distribute ballots.
Wm. E. Bell and Richard C. Lincoln to check names at ballot-box.
Edward H. Abell and Joseph M. Johnson to count votes.
John M. Richardson and Alex. Allan to supervise.
The polls were opened at quarter past six o'clock in the forenoon and were closed by vote of the town at half-past two o'clock in the afternoon. The total vote cast was 281. The votes were counted in open town meeting, and the follow- ing named officers were declared elected :-

In accordance with the usual custom the meeting was then adjourned to Monday evening, March 9th, at 7.30 o'clock.
ADJOURNED MEETING, MARCH 9, 1914.
ART. 3. To choose Fence Viewers, Field Drivers, and Pound Keepers.
Voted, That these officers be appointed by the Selectmen.
The following named persons were appointed to the several offices :
Fence Viewers, one year.

ART. 4. To see if the town will accept the reports of the several Town Officers for the past year.
The reports of the several town officers were taken up sep- arately and after the usual discussion were all accepted.
ART. 5. To grant and appropriate such sums of money as may be neces- sary to defray the expenses of the town for the ensuing year.

It was voted that the Selectmen confer with the Edison Co., to see if they will furnish street lights on a 12 o'clock basis, lights to burn every night instead of on moonlight schedule.
It was also voted that $200.00 of the Tree Warden appro- priation be expended in setting out new shade trees in the town.
ART. 6. To see if the town will authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the

taxes of the present municipal year to an amount not exceeding in the aggregate ten thousand dollars, and to issue a note or notes therefor payable within one year, any debt or debts incurred under this vote to be paid from the taxes of the present municipal year.
Voted, That the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the taxes of the present munic- ipal year to an amount not exceeding in the aggregate Ten Thousand Dollars, and to issue a note or notes therefor pay- able within one year, any debt or debts incurred under this vote to be paid from the taxes of said municipal year.
ART. 7. To determine in what manner the taxes shall be collected for the ensuing year, also determine what percentage shall be allowed the Collector for the ensuing year.
Voted, That the taxes be paid in accordance with the pro- visions of Chap. 688, Sec. 71, of the Acts of 1913 as amended by Chap. 824 of the Acts of 1913, viz. : "Taxes shall be paid not later than the 15th day of October of each year, and on all taxes remaining unpaid after the first day of November in- terest shall be paid at the rate of six per cent per annum from the 15th day of October until such taxes are paid." It was also voted that the Collector receive one and one-quarter per cent. on all taxes collected by him.
ART. 8. To see if the town will authorize the Collector to use all such means in the collection of taxes as the Treasurer might if elected to that office.
No action necessary, the article was dismissed.

ART. 9. To see what compensation the town will allow the Fire Depart- ment for the ensuing year, or do or act anything thereto.
Voted, That the Engineers of the Fire Department be paid the sum of Fifty Dollars each for their services and that the members of the Fire Department be paid the sum of twelve dollars per year and poll tax, and that they be paid fifty cents per hour while at work at fires.
ART. 10. To see how much per hour the town will allow for work on the highways for the year ensuing, or do or act anything relating thereto.

Voted, That it be left to the discretion of the Superintend- ent of Streets.
ART. 11. To see if the town will petition the Director of the Bureau of Statistics for an audit of its accounts in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 598, Acts of 1910, and amendments thereof.
Voted, That the Selectmen petition the Director of the Bureau of Statistics for an audit of the town accounts.
ART. 12. To see if the town will grant and appropriate the sum of ($500) five hundred dollars for the purchase of fire hose, or do or act anything re- lating thereto.
Voted, That the sum of Five hundred dollars be granted and appropriated for the purchase of Fire Hose.
ART. 13. To see if the town will accept the following named sums as perpetual trust funds for the care of lots in Vine Lake Cemetery, the inter- est thereof or so much as may be necessary to be used for said care, viz. :- For care of the "Noah Allen" lot, one hundred dollars. For care of the "James T. Allen" lot, one hundred dollars.
For care of the "John Balch" lot, one hundred dollars.
For care of the "William Crane" lot, fifty dollars.
For care of the "Geo. H. Wight" lot, one hundred dollars.
Voted, That the trust funds for care of lots be accepted.
ART. 14. To see if the town will transfer the balance left from the Flag appropriation to the School Fund or do or act anything relating thereto.
Voted, That the balance left of the "Flag" appropriation be used toward replacing the School Trust Fund.
ART. 15. To see if the town will replace the remaining balance of the School Fund from the proceeds of the sale of the Town Farm property or do or act anything relating thereto.
Voted, That a sum sufficient to bring the School Fund up to the amount of $3,550.00 be taken from the proceeds of the sale of the Town Farm.
ART. 16. To see what the town will do with the balance remaining in the treasury from the proceeds of the sale of the Town Farm property or do or act anything relating thereto.
Voted, That the balance remaining from the sale of the

Town Farm be loaned temporarily to the town to be used in anticipation of the current taxes and that the amount so Icaned be replaced on or before the close of each fiscal year, from the current tax levy.
ART. 17. To see if the town will extend the present heating arrangement in the Town House so as to heat the hall with steam, or do or act anything relating thereto.
Voted, That the matter of heating the Town Hall be left to the Selectmen and if in their discretion it is necessary and that the sum of $400.00 be and hereby is granted and appro priated for this purpose.
ART. 18. To hear and act on the reports of any committees appointed at previous meetings.
The report of the Valuation Committee was accepted and placed on file.
All the articles having been acted upon the meeting was dissolved.

SPECIAL MEETING.
JULY 1, 1914.
Pursuant to a warrant issued by the Selectmen, the in- habitants of the Town of Medfield, duly warned and notified in the manner prescribed by law, met at the Town Hall in said Medfield on the First day of July, 1914 at 7.30 o'clock in the evening; and the following action was taken upon the several articles contained in the warrant.
ARTICLE 1. To choose a Moderator to preside in said meeting.
The annually elected moderator being present no action was necessary.
ART. 2. To see if the Town will accept as a gift from Hannah Adams Pfaff a certain lot of land situated on the west side of North Street and the north side of Dale Street; said land to be used for town or municipal pur- poses only and to be known as the "Hannah Adams Pfaff gift."
The following letter was presented to the meeting. "To the Board of Selectmen : "Gentlemen :
"In accordance with the wish of my mother, Hannah" "Adams Pfaff, and on her behalf in remembrance of her" "childhood days, I desire to present to the Town of Medfield" "the lot of land situated on the west side of North Street" "and the north side of Dale Street, at the corner thereof," "in your town."
"The two restrictions upon the gift are:
"1st. That the land shall be used for Town or municipal" "purposes only."
"2nd. That it shall be known at the Hannah Adams" "Pfaff Gift."
"If a school, hospital, or any town institution be erected" "thereon, the word 'Gift' may be changed to that of the in-" "stitution onto the use made of the land, provided that such"

Voted, That the gift be accepted and that the Selectmen be and they are instructed to extend the vote of thanks of the Town to the donor.
ART. 3. To see if the Town will accept as a perpetual trust the sum of one hundred dollars, given by Mrs. O. H. Stevens, the interest thereof to be used for the care and maintenance of the "William Salisbury Lot" in Vine Lake Cemetery.
Voted, That the trust be accepted.
ART. 4. To see if the Town will build a cement bridge over Sawmill brook, on Mill Street near the Junction Depot, grant and appropriate money therefor, or do or act anything relating thereto.
Voted, That the Selectmen be and they are authorized to build a cement bridge over Sawmill brook on West Mill street and that the sum of Five hundred dollars be granted and ap- propriated for this purpose and that the Treasurer under the direction of the Selectmen be authorized to borrow said sum for the term of one year, giving a note of the town there- for.
ART. 5. To see if the Town will accept as a town way the extension of Pleasant Street, through the playground to Curve Street as laid out by the Selectmen, or do or act anything relating thereto.
Voted, That the street be accepted as laid out by the Select- men.
All the articles having been acted upon the meeting was dissolved.
