The amount appropriated at the last annual meeting for the pur- pose of keeping the town property insured, was not sufficient, owing to the additional insurance placed upon the alms-house buildings, stock, etc. but the amount required for the ensuing year will be much less; I would recommend the sum of $150.00 as that sum will

Warrant for Annual Meeting, 1883.
Worcester, ss. To either of the Constables in the Town of South- bridge, in the county of Worcester. GREETING :
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are here- by requested to notify the inhabitants of the town of Southbridge, aforesaid, qualified to vote in elections and town affairs, to meet in the Town Hall in said Southbridge, on Monday, the second day of April next, at nine of the clock in the forenoon, then and there to act on the following articles.
ART. 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meeting.
ART. 2. To choose all necessary Town Officers for the ensuing year-the Clerk, Treasurer, Selectmen, Overseers of the Poor, Assess- ors, School Committee, Library Committee, Cemetery Committee, Auditors and Constables will be voted for on one ballot; and the polls will be kept open for voting until three o'clock p. m., unless the meeting shall otherwise determine.
ART. 3. To vote by ballot "yes" or "no" in answer to the question, "Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors in the town," the check list being used, or act thereon.
ART. 4. To hear the report of the Auditors of Accounts, Clerk, Treasurer, Selectmen, Overseers of the Poor, Fire Engincers, School Committee, Library Committee, and Cemetery Committee, and to act upon any recommendations therein contained or act thereon.
ART. 5. To raise and appropriate one thousand dollars for pay- ment of debt. Also such sums of money as may be necessary to pay town bills and charges for the ensuing year or act thereon.

ART. 6. To see if the Town will authorize the Collector of Taxes · to use the means for collecting taxes, which the Treasurer when ap- pointed collector may use, or act thercon.
" ART. 7. To see if the Town will allow the usual discount on taxes, except taxes assessed on polls, or act thercon.
ART. 8. To see if the Town will authorize the Treasurer to borrow money for the use of the Town in anticipation of the taxes to be assessed the current year, and to give the notes of the Town therefor, or act thercon.
ART. 9. To see if the Town will vote to pay the engine men for the ensuing year or act thercon.
ART. 10. To see if the Town will accept the list of jurors as posted and presented by the selectmen or act thercon.
ART. 11. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate money to pay firemen according to the vote at the last annual meeting, or act thercon.
ART. 12. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate money to defray the expenses of the observance of Decoration Day, or act thereon.
ART. 13. To see if the Town will authorize the Treasurer to transfer the credit balances of the following accounts, viz: Chapin street, Edwards street walk, Main and Pleasant street walk, Main street walk east, South street, Hamilton street walk, Everett street walk, Everett street entrance and liquor licenses to unappropriated funds and to transfer from unappropriated funds enough to balance the following accounts, viz: Main street walk west, town farm barn and Columbian road, and to pay from the unappropriated funds the sum of four thousand dollars towards the note of the town of five thousand dollars maturing September 17, 1883, or act thercon.
ART. 14. To see if the Town will authorize the Treasurer to borrow money to renew or pay any existing debts of the town and give the notes of the town therefor or act thercon.
ART. 15. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate one thousand dollars, to widen and straighten the road, and rebuild the bank wall adjoining the premises of the Litchfield Shuttle Co., at Westville, or act thereon.

ART. 16. To see if the Town will appropriate from unappropriated funds seven hundred and eighty-five dollars and fifty-five cents, to the credit of Daniel Whitford, collector, the assessment of bank tax charged him in the assessors' warrant, or act thereon.
ART. 17. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate money to replace the old plank walk on the north side of Hamilton street, from the old Catholic church to corner of Oliver street, with curbing and concrete covering, or act thereon.
ART. 18. To see if the Town will raise and : ppropriate money to construct a sidewalk on the east side of Mill street, from River street to the bridge near the post office in Globe Village, or act thereon.
ART. 19. To see if the Town will construct a sidewalk on Central street, from that now built near the northerly line of James A. King, on westerly side of said street to the river, and on easterly side of said street from near the northerly line of Dr. Hartwell, to the southerly line of land of the New York & New England R. R. Co .; raise and appropriate money therefor, or act thereon.
ART. 20. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate one hundred and fifty dollars to pay for the use of the hydrants of the Southbridge Water Supply Co., from August 26, 1882, to March 1, 1833, or act thereon.
ART. 21. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate money to pay the Southbridge Water Supply Co., for the use of their hy- drants, for fire purposes the ensuing year, or act thereon.
ART. 22. To see if the Town will accept the road from Chestnut street to Morris street, two hundred and thirty feet long by forty feet wide, adjoining the estates of Alpha M. Cheney and F. O. Letcher, or act thereon.
ART. 23. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate forty-nine dollars and eighty-five cents to reimburse Dr. L. W. Curtis for side- walk built by him in front of his block on Pleasant street, or act thereon.
ART 24. To see if the Town will establish lamp posts as follows, to wit: three on Water street, three on Mill street, one on Edwards street, and one on Central street near the Central street bridge, and raise and appropriate money therefor, or act thereon.

ART. 25. To see what action the Town will take in regard to designating a school to which truants may be sent in compliance with the statutes, or act thercon.
ART. 26. To see if the Town will defray the expenses of the com- mittal of persons arrested by the collector for non-payment of taxes, or act thereon.
ART. 27. To see if the Town will change the by-laws of the town regarding the insurance of town property, so that it will not be necessary to insure such property, or act thereon.
ART. 28. To see if the Town will contract with the Telephone Company for telephones for use of the fire department the ensuing year, or act thereon.
And you are directed to serve this warrant by publishing an at- tested copy thereof twice in the Southbridge Journal, the first pub- lication being not less than nine days next preceding the day of the meeting-or by posting up such attested copies in four conspicuous public places within the town at least nine days, including Sundays, before the day of holding said meeting.
