WARRANT FOR ANNUAL MEETING, 1879.
WORCESTER SS.
To either of the constables of the town of Southbridge. Greeting:
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the town of Southbridge qualified to vote in elections and in town affairs to meet at the Town hall in Southbridge, on Monday, the seventh day of April next, at nine o'clock in the forenoon, then and there to act on the following articles:
ARTICLE 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meeting.
ARTICLE 2. To choose all necessary officers for the ensuing year The following officers to be voted for on one ballot: Town Clerk, Treas- urer, Selectmen and Oversecrs of the Poor, Assessors, School Commit- tee, Library Committee, Cemetery Committee, Auditors, Constables. Polls to be kept open until 3 o'clock, P MI
ARTICLE 3. To hear the reports of the Auditors of Accounts, Clerk, Treasurer, Selectmen, Overseers of the Poor, Fire Engineers, School, Library and Cemetery Committees, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 4. To see if the town will allow the usual discount on taxes excepting the taxes assessed on polls, or act thereou.
ARTICLE 5. To see if the town will authorize their treasurer to borrow money in anticipation of taxes, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 6. To see if the town will authorize the collector to use the means for collecting the taxes which the town treasurer, when appointed a collector, may use, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 7. To determine the manner of repairing the highways and bridges the ensuing year, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 8. To raise and appropriate such sums of money as may be necessary to pay town bills and charges the ensuing year, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 9. To see if the town will accept the list of jurors as posted and presented by the selectmen, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 10. To see if the town will vote to pay the engine men for the ensuing year, or act thereon.

ARTICLE 11. To see if the town will raise and appropriate such a sum of money as may be necessary to pay firemen or act thereon.
ARTICLE 12. To see if the town will instruct the fire engineers to establish a fire alarm telegraph between the two engiue houses and the American Optical company's works, or any part thereof, raise and ap- propriate money therefor or act thereon.
ARTICLE 13 To see if the town will relocate and build a culvert on the highway about midway between the residences of Geo. E. Mans- field and Wm. H. H. Cheney, ruise and appropriate money therefor-the same to be completed by the first day of May next.
ARTICLE 14. To see if the town will alter or amend Section 5 of the By-laws of the town, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 15. To see if the town will build a sidewalk on Marcy street from the north corner of Liberty Litchfield estate to Main street, and raise and appropriate money to construct the same, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 16. To see if the town will lav out and construct a concrete sidewalk on the easterly side of the store occupied by Bugbee & Wheeler, commencing on the northerly side of Main street and running to the southerly end of Mill street bridge over the Quinebaug river about 106 feet, raise and appropriate money therefor, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 17. To see if the town will vote to build a concrete side- walk from the engine house to iron bridge on north side of Main street, thence from iron bridge to Pleasant street, thence on east side of latter street to the north side of Canal street, a distance of 636 feet, to raise and appropriate money therefor or act thereon.
ARTICLE 18. To see if the town will raise and appropriate a suffic- ient sum of money to build a sidewalk on the north side of Main street-Globe Village, from west side of Pleasant street to the west line of the N. Upham estate, or act ihereon.
ARTICLE 19. To see if the town will allow the Women's Temper- ance union to hold their meetings in the Town hall free of charge, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 20. To see if the town will raise and appropriate money for purchasing lamp posts and lanterns to be placed as follows: Two on Winter street, one on School street at corner of Winter street, one on South street-corner of Winter, or act thereon.
ARTICLE, 21. To see what action the town will take in regard to completing the grading of Sayles street, raise and appropriate money therefor, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 22. To see if the town will provide suitable accommodation for another Intermediate school in Centre Village, raise and appropri- ate money therefor, or act thereon.

ARTICLE 23. To see if the town will authorize the treasurer to trans- fer from unappropriated funds the sum of $3,828.59, and from state aid $300 to the account of payments of debts; also from Pine street side- walk $68. 25, Hamilton street reservoir $39.10, Chapin street 13 cents, to credit accounts of sidewalks, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 24 To see if the town will authorize their treasurer to transfer the sum of $6.15 from the contingent of schools to the credit of Main and Morris school account, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 25. To see if the town will raise and appropriate the sum of fifty dollars ($50) for the purpose of defraying the expense of decor- ating our soldiers' graves on Decoration day, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 26. To see if the town will yote to fix the compensation of town officers and laborers, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 27. To see if the town wili instruct the overseers of the pour to furnish work for, and require tramps to labor in payment for food and lodging provided by the town, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 28 To see if the town will vote to instruct the selectmen to issue no licenses for the sale of intoxicating liquors the ensuing year, or act thereon.
ARTICLE 29. To see if the town will vote to instruct the selectmen to prosecute all violations of the law in relation to the sale of intoxicating liquor the ensuing year, or choose a committee for the purpose, or act thereon.
ARLICLE 30. To see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate $1000 for the purpose of paying the expenses of suppressing the sale of intoxicating liquors in the town the ensuing year, or act thereon.
And you are directed to serve this warrant by publishing an attested copy of the same in the SOUTHBRIDGE JOURNAL the two weeks next preceding the time of holding the meeting as aforesaid. Hereof fail not and make due return of this warrant with your doings therein to the town clerk, at the time and place aforesaid. Given under our hands this twenty-sixth day of March, A. D. 1879.
