Owing to the large number of candi- dates in the various precincts the counting was slow and the final result in all precincts was not announced until about 12.45 A: M. December 8th.

ADJOURNED MEETING


Arlington, March 31, 1921.


In accordance with the notice contained in the warrant calling the annual meeting of March 7th, the Town Meeting members, elected on March 7th met in the Town Hall on Thursday evening, March 31, at 8 o'clock and were called to order by the newly elected Moderator, John A. Colbert. All members were sworn by the Town Clerk. 232 members at- tended the meeting.


This meeting, as part of the annual meeting, was for the purpose of acting on all articles in the warrant not acted on March 7th.


Article 2 taken up (Choice of other town officers).

Voted : That the reports of the Selectmen and the various town officers as presented in the Town Reports, together with the additions of the Table of Statistics of Assessors and Com- mittees heretofore appointed be accepted.


Voted (on motion of Wilson D. Clark, Jr.), That the Report of the Finance Committee be now received.


Voted (on motion of Mr. Clark, Chairman), That the various articles now in the warrant be taken up and that the recommendations of the Finance Committee under the articles in their report be considered as now before the meeting, to be voted upon without further motion, separately, and in the order in which they appear in said report.


Article 4 taken up (Appropriation for Robbins Library).


Voted: That there be appropriated the sum of $10,000 in addition, to the Dog Tax for the maintenance of the Robbins Library for the year 1921, same to be expended under the direction of its Trustees.


Article 5 taken up (Appropriation for Schools).


Voted : That the sum of $279,323.30 be appropriated for the public schools for the year 1921, that for this purpose $30,000 be taken from available balances and receipts now in the Treasury, and the balance $249,323.30 be raised by general tax, the same to be expended, as itemized, under the direction of the School Committee.

ARLINGTON TOWN REPORT


Article 6 (Memorial Day Appropriation) taken up.


Voted, That the sum of $950.00 be appropriated for the proper observance of Memorial Day, $350.00 to be expended under the direction of Francis Gould Post 36, G. A. R., $100.00 under the direction of the Spanish War Veterans, and the bal- ance, $500.00, under the direction of Arlington Post No. 39 The American Legion.


Article 7 (Water for hydrants, etc.) taken up.


Voted, That the sum of $7,000.00 be appropriated and paid to the Water Department for water used for fire hydrants, street watering and public buildings for the year 1921.

Voted, That the sum of $9,000.00 be appropriated for the construction of permanent sidewalks and curbstones, said ap- propriation to be expended as follows :

Voted, That the sum of $6,000.00 be appropriated for the maintenance of the Sewerage System for 1921.

Article II (Extension of Sewer System) taken up.


Voted, That the sum of $25,000.00 be appropriated for the extension of the Sewerage System, and that for this pur- pose $23,106.60 be raised by general tax, and the balance, $1,893.40 be transferred from Sewer Funds now in the Treasury.


Article 12 (Extension of Water Mains) taken up.


Voted unanimously, That the sum of $20,000.00 be ap- propriated for the extension of Water Mains, and that for this purpose $5,000. be raised by general tax, and for the balance, $15,000.00, the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized and empowered to borrow said sum of $15,000, and to issue bonds or notes of the Town there- for, said bonds or notes to be payable in accordance with the provisions of Section 19 of Chapter 44 of the General Laws, so that the whole loan shall be paid in not more than five years from the date of issue of the first bond or note, or at such earlier date as the Treasurer and Selectmen may determine.


Article 13 (Extension of Storm Drains) taken up.


Voted, That the sum of $7,500 be appropriated for the extension of the Storm Drains System for the year 1921.


Article 14 (Removal of Snow and Ice) taken up.


Voted, That the sum of $7,000 be appropriated for the removal of snow and ice from the highways for the year 1921.


Article 15 (Street Lighting) taken up.


Voted, That the sum of $14,660 be appropriated for the Engineering Work of the Town. This amount included the salary of the Town Engineer.


Article 17 (Gypsy and Brown Tail Moths) taken up.


Voted, That the sum of $6,300 be appropriated for the year 1921, to be expended under the direction of the Selectmen in suppressing the Gypsy and Brown Tail Moths in the Town of Arlington, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 132 of the General Laws and amendments thereto. Salary of Superintendent included in this amount.

ARLINGTON TOWN REPORT


Voted, That the sum of $2,800 be appropriated for the Tree Warden's Department, $1,250 of said sum to be expended for the care of existing trees, planting of new trees and the removal of dead or dangerous trees, the whole to be expended under the direction of the Tree Warden.


Article 19 (Public Parks) taken up.


Voted, That the sum of $600 be appropriated for the maintenance and improvement of the public parks of the Town during the year 1921, the same to be expended under the direc- tion of the Park Commissioner.


Article 20 (Payment of Pensions) taken up.


Voted, That the sum of $2,000 be appropriated for the payment of pensions during the year 1921.


Article 21 (Grading of Crosby School Playground) taken up.


Voted, That the sum of $1,500 be appropriated for the proper grading of the playground at the Crosby School, the same to be expended under the direction of the Board of Public Works.


Article 22 (Furnishings for New Junior High School) taken up.


Voted unanimously, That the sum of $19,000 be appropri- ated for the original furnishings of the New Junior High School, and that for this purpose $1000 be raised by general tax, and for the balance, $18,000, the Treasurer, with the ap- proval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow said sum of $18,000, and to issue bonds or notes of the Town therefor, said bonds or notes to be payable in accordance with the provisions of Section 19 of Chapter 44 of the General Laws, so that the whole loan shall be paid in not more than five years from the date of issue of the first bond or note, or at such earlier date as the Treasurer and Selectmen may de- termine. Said sum to be expended under the direction of the Committee on New Junior High School Building.
