REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF WIRES
Arlington-Lexington Mutual Aid went into effect December 29, 1926.
This system is working with Belmont, Lexington. Medford and Somerville; and we have every reason to believe that Cambridge and Winchester will be connected with us early in 1927.
UNDERGROUND AND OVERHEAD CABLES
During the past year there were installed in under- ground conduits nineteen thousand eight hundred sixty- three (19,863) feet of lead-covered cable; and eleven thousand two hundred forty-seven (11,247) feet of fibrex dry cable were attached to poles overhead, representing nearly fifty (50) miles of high grade single No. 14 rub- ber-covered wire.
WIRING FOR FIRE ALARM AND POLICE SIGNAL SYSTEM
The repeater installed in the old Fire Alarm Head- quarters provided for four circuits, which arrangement was suitable for the conditions existing at the time of its installation. The rapid development of the Town placed too great a load upon these circuits, consequently the present repeater installed in the new Fire Headquarters provided for eight circuits.
A considerable amount of additional wire was re- quired to effect this change and to provide a gong circuit, a departmental telephone system connecting the three fire stations, the establishing of mutual aid facilities with Lexington and Winchester, also for the new Police De- partment Headquarters, dividing the present system from four into six circuits.
POLICE SIGNAL SYSTEM
There were two (2) Police boxes installed in the fol- lowing locations: Box 212 on Webster street, beyond

SEWER DIVISION
Eleven thousand, six hundred and twenty feet of main sewer were laid during the year, and three hundred and fifty connections were made with the mains. De- tails of sewer construction and maintenance will be found in Tables 4 and 5.
Due to the installation of the new Metropolitan sewer main and the Town being able to enter the same, the three pumps located at Medford Street, Grove Street and Brattle Street will be discontinued, which will afford a yearly saving to the Town of approximately $3,600.00.
