Voted: (Unanimously) That the Selectmen be and hereby are authorized and empowered in the name and on behalf of the Town to convey or release all the right, title and interest which the Town acquired under or by virtue of a certain deed of Julia E. Fuller to it, dated June 3, 1916, and recorded with Middlesex So. Dist. Deeds, book 4058 page 223, in and to the premises therein described, being a certain parcel of land situated on Lansdowne Road and Millett Street, containing 4342 square feet of land more or less, and shown as the lot No. 37 on a plan entitled "Plan of House Lots at Home- stead Park, Arlington, belonging to William Millett", drawn by J. O. Goodwin, Surveyor, dated May 1901, revised June 1902, recorded with said Deeds, plan book 138 plan 15; and to execute, acknowledge and deliver a proper deed for that purpose for the minimum amount of one dollar for such conveyance or release, and upon such other terms as the Selectmen shall consider proper.

ARLINGTON TOWN REPORT


Arlington, January 28, 1926.


Pursuant to the vote of adjournment on January 14, 1926, the Town Meeting Members met in the Town Hall on Thursday evening, January 28, 1926, notices having been sent by mail by the Town Clerk to the Town Meet- ing Members seven days before the meeting. Notices were published in the local paper and posted in three places in each precinct.


Lists of the duly qualified Town Meeting Members were used at the entrances of the meeting place and were in charge of James F. Higgins and Philip T. Robinson.


The check lists filed with the Town Clerk at the close of the meeting showed that one hundred and fifty-one members attended the meeting.


The meeting was called to order at five minutes past eight o'clock in the evening by the Moderator, John G. Brackett.


The Town Meeting Members who had not already been sworn were sworn by the Moderator.


On motion of William A. Muller :


Voted : That Article 21 be taken up. (Zoning- Massachusetts Avenue from High School Lot to Court Street.)


By permission of the Moderator, Mr. Walter C. Sar- gent presented to the Town Meeting Members the reasons why twenty abutting owners in this district were in favor of changing this territory from a single residence district to a business district.

Voted: (On rising vote, one hundred and sixteen voting in favor, thirty-two in opposition, more than the necessary two-thirds ; Messrs. Converse, Bent and Hardy acting as tellers) That the Town's Zoning By-law be

and hereby is amended by altering the zoning map there- in referred to so as to include in a Business District all the area on the northerly side of Massachusetts Avenue, bounded southerly by Massachusetts Avenue, westerly by the High School lot, northerly by the Industrial Dis- trict and the Semi-Residence District, as shown on said zoning map, and easterly by Court Street.


Article 15 taken up. (Zoning-Massachusetts Ave- nue-Southerly-from Academy Street to Newman Way.)

Converse, Bent and Hardy acting as tellers) That the Town's Zoning By-law be and hereby is amended by altering the zoning map therein referred to so as to include in a Business District all the area on the southerly side of Massachusetts Ave- nue bounded easterly by Academy Street, southerly by the General Residence District as shown on said map, westerly by Newman Way, so-called, and northerly by Massachusetts Avenue.


Article 16 taken up. (Zoning-Premises 792 Massa- chusetts Avenue.)


The following motion was made by Hollis M. Gott:


That the Town's Zoning By-law be and hereby is amended by altering the zoning map therein referred to so as to include in a Business District the premises num- bered 792 on the southerly side of Massachusetts Avenue, and being lot 16 as shown on plan entitled "Partition Plan of the T. H. Teel Estate in Arlington, J. O. Goodwin, Surveyor, dated April 18, 1884" recorded with Middlesex South District Deeds, plan book 42, plan 3, and more particularly described in Article 16 of the Warrant.

On rising vote, twenty-nine voting in favor, eighty- seven in opposition-less than the necessary two-thirds, the motion was lost; Messrs. Converse, Bent and Hardy acting as tellers.


Article 20 taken up. (Zoning-Corner of Massachu- setts. Avenue and Jason Street.)


The following motion of Hollis M. Gott being put before the meeting was declared lost by the Moderator.


That the Town's Zoning By-law be and hereby is amended by altering the zoning map therein referred to so as to include in a Business District a certain lot of land containing seven thousand four hundred (7,400) square. feet, more or less, situated at the corner of Massachu- setts Avenue and Jason Street and more particularly described in Article 20 of the Warrant.


Article 22 taken up. (Zoning-Corner of Massachu- setts Avenue and Mill Street.)


On motion of Hollis M. Gott:


Voted: (Unanimously) That the Town's Zoning By- law be and hereby is amended by altering the zoning map therein referred to so as to include in a Business District all the land bordering on Massachusetts Avenue on the northerly side thereof at the southeasterly corner of Mill Street from the westerly corner of the property known as the Colonial Garage to the corner of Mill Street and having a frontage on Massachusetts Avenue of eighty-four and 85.100 (84.85) feet, and now in a single Residence District.

Greeting :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabi- tants of the Town of Arlington, qualified as the Consti- tution requires, to vote in elections, to meet at the polling places designated for the several precincts in said town on Monday, the first day of March, 1926, at seven o'clock in the forenoon, to act on the following Articles, namely :


Article 1. To elect by ballot the following town officers : a Moderator for one year ; a Selectman for three years ; a Town Clerk for one year; a Town Treasurer for one year: a Collector of Taxes for one year ; one member of the Board of Public Works for three years ; one Asses- sor for one year; one Assessor for three years; three members of the School Committee for three years; two Trustees of the Robbins Library for three years; one member of the Board of Health for three years; one Park Commissioner for three years; two members of the Planning Board for three years; one Commissioner of the Sinking Fund for one year; one Commissioner of the Sinking Fund for three years; one Trustee of the Pratt Fund for five years; one Trustee of the Edwin S. For these purposes, the polls will be opened at seven o'clock A. M., and remain open until eight P. M., at each of the polling places designated, viz: Precinct One in the Crosby School Building, Winter Street; Precinct Two in the Hardy School Building, Lake Street ; Precincts Three, Four, Five and Six in the Town Hall; Precinct Seven in the Locke School Building, Park Avenue, Heights.


You are, also, required to notify and warn the said inhabitants to meet at the Town Hall in said Town on Friday, the twenty-sixth day of March, 1926, at eight o'clock in the evening to act on the following articles.


Article 2. To choose or appoint all other usual town officers not hereinbefore mentioned in such manner as, the Town may determine.


Article 3. To hear and act on the reports of the Board of Selectmen, of the committee under vote passed April 16, 1923, to investigate the matter of additional fire protection in the western part of the Town; of the committee under vote of April 16, 1923, to draw up regu- lations relating to land acquired by the Town in connec- tion with unpaid taxes and assessments; of the commit- tee under vote passed March 28, 1923, for the construc- tion of a fire department building ; of the committee under vote passed March 26, 1925, to procure plans and estimates for the construction of a building for the use of the Police Department; of the committee under vote passed May 28, 1925, to consider the amendment, alteration, repeal or revision of or addi- tions to the Town's By-Laws; of the committee under vote passed January 14, 1926, to consider the condition of Spy Pond; of the committee under vote passed

Article 4. To make an appropriation for the Rob- bins Library.


Article 5. · To make an appropriation for the public schools of the Town; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 6. To see if the Town will make an appro- priation for the proper observance of Memorial Day; determine in what manner the money shall be expended ; or take any action thereon.


Article 7. To see if the Town will appropriate $7,000 in accordance with the vote passed December 6, - 1904, for water used for public purposes.


Article 8. To see if the Town will make an appro- priation for the construction of permanent sidewalks and for the installing of curbstone; determine in what man- ner the money shall be raised ; or take any action thereon.


Article 9. To see if the Town will make an appro- priation for the use of the Highway Division; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended ; or take any action thereon.


Article 10. To see if the Town will make an appro- priation for the maintenance of the sewerage system; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended ; or take any action thereon.


Article 11. To see if the Town will make an appro- priation for the extension of the sewerage system; deter- mine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended ; or take any action thereon.

Article 19. To see if the Town will make an appro- priation for the planting of trees, removal of dead and dangerous trees, and for the trimming and general care of existing trees, the same to be expended under the direction of the Tree Warden; or take any action thereon.


Article 20. To see if the Town will make an appro- priation for the maintenance and improvement of the

public parks of the Town; determine in what manner the money shall be raised; or take any action thereon.


Article 21. To see if the Town will make an appro- priation for the payment of pensions to persons entitled to such pensions under the provisions of law accepted by the Town; or take any action thereon.


Article 22. To see if the Town will authorize the Town Treasurer, under the direction of the Selectmen, to borrow money in anticipation of the revenue for the year 1926, the same to be repaid directly from the pro- ceeds of said revenue ; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 23. To see if the Town will authorize its Collector of Taxes to use all means of collecting taxes for the year 1926, which a Town Treasurer may use when appointed a Collector of Taxes.


Article 24. To determine in what manner the Town ways, highways, and bridges shall be repaired during the ensuing year.


Article 25. To see if the Town will make an appro- priation of the sum of one thousand ($1000) dollars or any other sum for the employment of district or other nurses; determine in what manner the money shall be raised or expended; or take any action relating thereto.
