The following friends have presented books to the library during the past year : Mrs. Pamela Bond, Miss M. B. Hawks, Mrs. Adelia Clough, Mrs. M. B. Stevens and Mr. Wm. Healey.

Ninety-four books and twenty-four volumes of magazines have been added to the library during the year. The librarian reports 1906 books loaned and 170 different persons as applying for books.

The library has increased so much that it was found necessary to

add another book case to those already in use. This expense, to- gether with the fact that our income was smaller than common, has caused us to defer the printing of a supplementary catalogue which is much needed.

Special attention has been paid this year to reading matter for our boys and girls, and quite a good start has been made in this direction.

In closing our report the Trustees would call the attention of the voters to the fact that the library appropriation is never overdrawn.

REPORT OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

REPORT OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

Your committee have but little of interest to report to the town at this time.

Our efforts to secure, from the state, assistance in the payment of tuition in the High schools were unsuccessful.

Last September we were requested to provide transportation for the pupils in the north part of the town to the Centre schools. We felt that this was a matter that should be settled by the town and not by the committee, and advised that a meeting of the town be called for that purpose. This was done, and the matter came before the town at a special meeting in November last, but those whom we supposed interested did not see fit to attend and the matter was "in- definitely postponed." We are sorry it was not attended to at that time as we are confident it could have been settled to the satisfac- tion of all. A few weeks later we were informed by an agent of the State Board of Education, that unless we provided some way for those children to attend school, he should take steps to have the in- come of the state school fund withheld from the town. While we questioned his right and ability to do this, we thought rather than have any further controversy in the matter, it best to provide trans- portation for those children, from that time until the annual meeting in March, when we trust the matter will be settled satisfactorily.

The schools are all in charge of the same teachers as when we re- ported one year ago.
