Report of School Committee.
As has been the custom, we herewith submit a brief report as to the condition of our schools.
During the past year our schools, with the Wakefield schools, have been under the supervision of Mr. Alfred C. Thompson, whose work deserves the highest commendation, and we feel thankful for having been so fortunate in securing the services of 80 able and competent a superintendent.
Our teaching force at the present time is, as we believe, one of the best the town has ever had, and it seems fitting at this time to express our appreciation of the good results which our teachers are securing. Your committee considers that it is wise economy to retain, if possible, in our employ, teachers whose ability and success have been demonstrated in our own schools. In our recommendation for appropriations we have made provisions so that we can offer to our teachers an increase in their salaries of perhaps one dollar per week, which it seems to us they deserve.
There are at present twenty-one Lynnfield pupils in the Wake- field high school, and it is probable that the number will be in- creased next year. We suggest that our pupils should, if possible, continue their studies to higher institutions of learning, whereby they may become better fitted to take up life's work, whatever it may be, and also may develop those qualities which tend to a larger manhood or womanhood.
