REPORT OF THE OVERSEERS OF THE POOR.

REPORT.

We respectfully submit the following report :

In accordance with a vote of the town, viz : "That the Selectmen be instructed to commence any suit against the kindred of any insane person or persons now supported at the expense of the town that the Selectmen think are able to pay a portion or the whole of the charges for the support of such insane person," --

We respectfully submit the following report : We secured legal advice in regard to the same, and were referred to a case of the town of Templeton against Austin C. Stratton, under the General Statutes, Chapter 70, Section 5, in Massachusetts Reports No. 128, page 137, which can be found in the Public Library where the term "sufficient ability" to contribute to such support is defined to mean, where the value of their entire property above their debts is between $5,000 and $6,000.

And therefore we are of the opinion that none of the parents of the persons supported at the expense of the town are of sufficient ability.

Overseers of Poor, Wilmington.
