FRED A. EAMES, J. HOWARD EAMES, CHAS. J. SARGENT, Trustees,

MOTH DEPARTMENT

To the Honorable Board of Selectmen :

GENTLEMEN :- As local Moth Superintendent I hereby submit a brief report of the condition of the Town with regard to the gypsy and brown tail moth, together with the amount of work that has been done.

As you well know I knew nothing about the amount of work to be done but with the assistance of agents sent from the State Superintendent's office the work has been done in such a manner as to meet the approval and satisfaction of the State Superintendent.

The south and east parts of the town were very badly infested with gypsy moths and the town has been thoroughly scouted both by myself and the State inspectors and we find the colonies in the north and west parts more scattered. Several miles of roadside has been cleared from all brush and rubbish and burned, also a few acres of woodland. All the street trees have been burlaped with the exception of a few of the short back streets and also several acres of woodland.

The brown tail moths are scattered all over the town and I find that the property owners are taking hold and cutting the webs from their trees with a determined will. Some owners have already taken hold of the gypsy moths and I should like to have others follow their example. I will supply creosote and assist them all I can.

Respectfully submitted, OLIVER A. McGRANE, Local Superintendent.

AUDITOR'S REPORT

All bills have been audited each week before being paid and the vouchers were checked up at the end of the year with the Selectmen and Treasurer's accounts.

The Assessors' book was verified before the commitment was given to the Tax Collector and his books have been examined on various occasions during the year, and his report on another page is correct.

The accounts of the Trustees of the Trust Funds, which also appear in this book, are correct.

The Treasurer's books were duly examined at the end of the year and the balance on hand, as given in his report is correct, viz : six hundred and thirty-five dollars ($635.)

BERNARD F. DOUCETTE, Auditor.

REPORT OF THE BOARD OF FIRE ENGINEERS

To the Board of Selectmen :

GENTLEMEN :- We have been very fortunate the past year in having few fires. We have had fourteen alarms, two of which were for buildings, the loss in each case being small; the balance were for brush fires only one of which caused much damage.

We have purchased one cheap express wagon, forty ten-quart cans, twelve Johnson pumps, twelve shovels and six brooms for use at brush fires. We also had loaned to us an express wagon. With these wagons and gear we find we can handle brush fires more successfully and with less expense than with our apparatus. One of these wagons with one-half of the gear is located at the residence of the Chief in the north part of the town, the other with balance of gear at the residence of the Assistant Chief at the centre. Both have horses available at all times. By this arrangement we can respond more quickly, and have water available when we arrive at the fire regardless of its location.

The Board would recommend the purchase of another wagon to take the place of the one loaned us for the past year, and two sets of harness for use on these wagons.

Our engines and hose wagons have had nothing done to them since purchased and are badly in need of repairs, paint and varnish. We would recommend an appropriation of $300 for repairs and maintenance.

We would further recommend that some provision be made for the protection of property in the thickly settled parts of the town by piping from ponds to cisterns on the street.

The Board would also recommend an appropriation for the ensuing year of $500 for expense of fires.

Respectfully submitted,

J. M. HILL, Chief Board of Engineers.

REPORT OF TRUSTEES OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY

To the Citizens of Wilmington:

The library of this Town is now a necessary institution sup- plying to a considerable extent the literary wants of the towns- people.

That it is becoming more appreciated each year is shown by the report of the librarian.

We hope that the circulation will continue to increase and that a larger number will become borrowers from the library.

In our efforts to make the library popular we have had printed . blank forms on which patrons are invited to write the names of any books which they wish placed in the library.

This list is of great assistance to the book committee in making selections. We hope that this way of expressing your wishes to the committee will be utilized to a greater extent.

Since our last report death has taken from our midst Frederick Albert Roberts, M. D., a member since 1905 of this Board of Trustees. His death occurred just as his field of influence was broadening ; his usefulness was being recognized and when his future prospects seemed bright indeed.

Our Town has lost a patriotic citizen, public spirited and pro- gressive ; and a physician untiring, skillful and sympathetic-those attributes that lead to success. We sincerely mourn his loss.

EDWARD N. EAMES, Chairman. EDGAR C. FOLKINS, Secretary. DANIEL T. BUZZELL, Treasurer. JOHN W. HATHAWAY. ROBERT H. GOWING.
