At a General Town Meeting of the Freeholders & other In- habitants of Watertown qualified to vote in Town affairs regularly afsembled at the Publick Meeting house on Monday the second Day of June AD 1755. By Adjournment.


Put to vote whether it is the mind of the Town that those Per- sons who injoyd Pews in the former Meeting house should have Pews in the present Meeting house in the same places where their Pews were in sd former Meeting house under the regulations and upon the Terms other Pews shall be disposd of. And the Vote past in the Negative.


Put to vote whether it be the mind of the Town that the Pews should be settled upon Real & Personal Estate and one Head, And the Vote past in the Affirmative.

Watertown Records.


Put to vote whether it is the mind of the Town that the Valua- tion by which the Rate was made for building the Meeting house be the Rule by which the Pews shall be despos" of, And the Vote past in the Affirmative.


Voted that the Persons to whom the Pews shall be granted or who shall draw the Pews, personally set in them usually with their Families or s' Pews shall revert to the Town.


Voted that when any Persons shall see cause to sell their Pews the Town shall have the refusal of s' Pews paying the Money rais" on s' Pews.


Voted that if any Persons sell their Estates and move out of Town their Pews shall revert to the Town. The Town paying or reimbursting to them the money paid by them for sa Pews.

Voted that those Persons who are reputed Members of the Church of England have a chance for drawing Pews and enjoy the Pews they shall draw as long as they pay their proportion to the Meeting house & Support of the Minister in this Town. Which if they refuse to do so Pews shall revert to the Town for the Town to dispose of as they shall see fit.


Voted that the Afsefsors be the Committee to make the Adjust- ment of the Charge to be laid upon the Pews, And to offer the Pews to Persons according to their pay, the highest payer first and so on succefsively.

I am of Opinion that Edward Harrington did not convey his Pew in Watertown Meeting House to his Sons by his deed of Gift of his Real Eftate to them in his life time, And that the fame Pew by his Death Defcended to his Heirs at law.

This next above mentioned couple I were much adoe prevailed wyth to marye them, ptly for my own fake, bsc I wid not give offence (tho I hope I fhall not) & ptly for their fake, bec its good doing what is done on a good foundation & wth Authority. I was much importuned by friends, fhe is one of my Ireland friends, & was once my fervt, it hath been practifed, I leave it wth gd, oh yt I was maryed to J. X.


Upon ye 5th of March 1690/1 I maryed in my houfe (i. e. in my study at Watertown) Peter Allen & Mary Smethurft wth ye confent of Friends ye being publifhed according to law


This above couple were my country Folk who by their Impor- tunity prevailed wth me I am not forbidden to marry, yefore I do it only on fpeciall occasions

This above named Mariage was returned & recorded ye 21st of Feb. 1692/3 by Mr Webb ye Tn. Clarke, M' Wilkins went to him


Upon ye 9th of May 1693 I maryed in my houfe in Bofton Simon Taintor & Joanna Stone both of Watertown with ye confent of Friends ye being publifhed according to law


Muning Sawin was ye Clark, & teftifyed it publickly.


This above named mariage was recorded in ye later end of May or begining of June 1693 by Mr Webb, Mr Wilkins went wth it to him, I gave him 3 black doggs


Upon ye 14th of September 1693 I maryed (in Capt. Leggs houfe) Capt John Barrett & Sabella Legg both of Bofton with ye confent of Friends ye being publifhed according to law


This next above named mariage was recorded ye 4th of October 1693 by Mr Webb, I went with it myfelf & payd him.
