THE MEGUNTICOOK GOLF CLUB.
Beauchamp Point.
Interest in golf in Camden has grown very rapidly from small beginnings. Three years ago, in the summer of 1898, a primi- tive course was laid out consisting of six empty tomato cans placed in some vacant fields, which could receive but little care as the total income from subscriptions the first season was less than fifty dollars. Since then the enthusiasm of players and subscribers has developed to such an extent that it now seems wise to put the golf club on some permanent and stable basis. With this end in view a number of gentlemen interested in the old voluntary association have organized an incorporated club under the laws of the state of Maine. The incorporators were: Messrs. E. J. Wardwell, Charles T. Gallagher, J. C. Straw- bridge, Charles W. Henry, A. H. Chatfield, Frederick Gilbert, F. Forchheimer, Henry Jones, J. J. Herrick.
