To Business Men:
"THE Casco Bay Directory, as its name indicates, is a directory of the island trade district and all points in the bay connected with Portland by regular steam- boat service. As such it is the only re- liable Directory of this section. The pub- lishers wish to warn business men against fraudulent publications Copies of voting lists, or names obtained from unreliable sources, having no circulation beyond the advertisers' copies. The Casco Bay direc- tory is a personally canvassed list of all the residents of its district and is backed up by a substantial subscription list. The namesof summer visitors for this work are obtained only after considerable expense and can be relied upon as a representative list of summer travel.
We wish to thank patrons and all others who have in any way assisted in the pub- lication of this issue of the Directory.
Very respectfully yours, The Breeze Publishing (1)

LONG ISLAND.
L
ONG ISLAND, formerly a part of the town of Cumberland, now attached to Portland, is one of the most important islands in the bay, both in roint of size and popularity. The sail to this island,
about five miles from the city, is a most popular one, and is enjoyed by thousands in the summer time, both to enjoy the far-famed clam bake and shore dinners, served here perhaps better than anywhere else in New England ; and to pass a few weeks in a spot of delight- ful coolness and comfort in the most enjoyable company.
In some of the pavilions connected with the leading hotels, dances are held twice a week through the entire summer, while for a

THE Granite Spring Hotel, because of its healthful surroundings and convenient location, takes its place at once among the leading hotels of the Maine coast.
The pure Granite Spring Water used in this hotel exclusively, is not to be compared with any other private water supply on the shores of New England. Pure water and good health go hand in hand and the Granite Spring is acknowledged by experts to be unequalled in this respect.
Thoroughly furnished, and equipped to handle the rush of summer travel without the slightest inconvenience and with every comfort for its guests.

day's amusement, a visitor can make choice of all the active sports which make a vacation at Casco Bay one round of enjoyment. In this connection it may be said, however, that on Long Island is the finest surf-bathing beach in this vicinity. The long rollers and comb- ers from the ocean here break and foam on as fine and hard sand as could be desired. The beach being in the form of a crescent and very evenly graded, surf bathing can be enjoyed at any time of tide. On the north and west shores are clam beaches, where a plentiful supply of these bivalves can be had for the digging.
One of the principal attractions to those who wish for shaded walks and drives, are the fine groves, thick with the balsam-laden pines, which are a feature of this portion of the Maine coast. The roads are excellent ; there are several well stocked stores carrying a general supply of everything needful; a post-office, two mails each day in summer, and quick communication with Portland by two steamboat lines.
A word about the hotels to those who have never visited Long Island will be opportune. They are modern, well equipped, and most carefully managed, and everything looking to the comfort and enjoyment of guests is provided in full measure.

T HIS ISLAND is second in size of the Casco Bay group and presents a most varied and pleasing aspect to the eye, its wooded vistas of green pine boughs, through which pass the quiet roads and by paths, offering an appreciative relief from the bold coast scenery.
SOUTH SHORE, GREAT CHEBEAGUE.
"Chebeague Island is beautiful for situation," these were the words of a resident of another resort in beautiful Casco Bay. The source of this opinion gives it value. It is also the opinion of the rapidly increasing number of summer visitors, as it is growing in popularity as a summer resort each year. It is only ten miles from Portland, good boat accommodations, the very best of roads for driv- ng or bicycling, being constructed of shells, these, together with its charming views, make it a delightful place of rest and recreation.
The inhabitants are of good old stock and are endeavoring to keep the tone of the island high, and the high class of visitors who
