Barendsen, Benjamin F., whose portrait will be found on another page of this volume, is one of Grand Rapids' self-made men. He was born in Berkeloo, Holland, 1870. His grandfather was Mayor of that town for many years. Mr. Barendsen came to Grand Rapids when two years of age and has resided in and about that place ever since. His parents still reside there. Mr. Barendsen was married on Nov. 1, 1892, to Miss Amanda Eby. ' They have two children, Lambert G. and Thomas Peck Barendsen. Mr. Barendsen has a nice legal business, making a specialty of office work, such as advices, drafting papers, Pension Attorney and Notary Public. His offices are located in the heart of the city, on Monroe St., opposite the Morton House. He owns some property in Grand Rapids and south of the city, on one of the most popular streets, that of S. Division. Mr. Barendsen now resides at Barendsenville, which is the first village south of Grand Rapids, Mich. He hails from a large family of children and is the third boy thereof.
