INTRODUCTORY. 39754 7
This our Annual Directory, is offered to the good people of Winston and Salem. It is not a perfect Directory, because such a production has ' never been known since Adam claimed a monopoly of the census; but it is equal to all reasonable requirements.
A Directory is a work the most prone of all to errors, from the fact that information is received from all sources, and in many cases given in a manner calculated to mislead, but we believe the present volume will be found entirely free of errors that will in any way detract from the value of the book.
Considerable difficulty has been encountered in our effort to make the work thorough and complete, yet we claim that there are but few errors. Many names are spelled in a half a dozen different ways, and yet retain; the same phonetic sense. This fact necessitates careful search, which we trust will be made in all cases of doubt.
Our Book is completed, and to the public we confidently trust it, knowing that they will appreciate its merits and deal kindly with its faults, and extend thanks to all who so kindly aided us in our work.
Very Respectfully, E. F. TURNER & CO.,
