OUR AIM is to render a service that will be satisfactory to our customers, however, we realize that difficulties will sometimes occur despite all our efforts to avoid them. On PAGE ONE is shown Calling Information regard- ing-PLACING LONG DISTANCE CALLS, OBTAINING NUMBERS NOT IN THE DIRECTORY, REQUESTING ASSISTANCE ON CALLS, REPORTING TELE- PHONES OUT OF ORDER and MAKING EMERGENCY CALLS. All business matters should be taken up with the Business Office either by telephone or by mail.
YOUR BUSINESS OFFICE REPRESENTATIVE Your service is handled by a repre- sentative in the Business Office who will help with. any service requirements. She will ar- range for additional telephone service, moves or disconnection of service, listings in the directory, answer questions about your bills or payments, and furnish information about other telephone matters.

BILLS AND PAYMENTS Telephone bills are ren- dered monthly and include charges in advance for local service for a one month period from date of bill and for long distance service for a month period preceding the date of the bill.
Bills may be paid by mail or in person at the Business Office located at 318 S. DeKalb St., Shelby, N. C. There is a depository in the entrance of the building for the convenience of customers wishing to pay bills before or after office hours and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

GENERAL INFORMATION
TARIFFS . . . Tariffs which show rates, rules and regulations for telephone service and facilities, ap- proved by the Regulatory Commission, are available in our Business Office for public inspection.
TRANSMITTING MESSAGES . . . Employees of the Telephone Company are forbidden to accept oral or written messages to be transmitted over the lines of the Telephone Company.
RELINQUISHING TELEPHONES FOR EMERGENCY CALLS ... The law of North Carolina provides that any person who fails to relinquish a telephone party line or a public-pay telephone when informed that such a line is needed for an emergency call to a fire department or police department, or for medical aid or ambulance service shall be guilty of a misde- meanor. Such law also provides that any person who shall secure a telephone party line or a public-pay telephone by falsely stating that such line is needed for an emergency call, is guilty of a misdemeanor.
ADVERTISING TELEPHONE NUMBERS .. . There are recognized advantages of showing telephone num- bers on stationery, signs, cards, etc. Growth and changes in telephone facilities may require the changing of telephone numbers, therefore, any of these showing telephone numbers should not be printed in large quantities.
TELEGRAMS BY TELEPHONE . . . You may telephone telegrams, cablegrams or radiograms to the Western Union Telegraph Co., and have the charges appear on your telephone bill. You may also telephone your messages from coin telephones, paying as you would for a telephone call.
RECORDING OF TELEPHONE CONVERSATIONS . .. Many businesses have automatic answering and re- cording telephone sets to take your calls and record any messages. A "beep" tone is the signal that the device is starting to record. When you hear the "beep", speak your message into the telephone clearly; you will have about 30 seconds.
For Your Protection . . . the "beep" signal, produced automatically by the device used to connect record- Ing equipment to telephone lines and heard about every 15 seconds on any telephone call, indicates that your conversation Is being recorded. If you don't want a record made, tell the party to disconnect his recorder. You will know he has complied if the "beep" stops. Use of a recorder without this signal is unlawful.
YOUR 'PHONE AWAY FROM HOME . . . More and more outdoor telephone booths are being placed at convenient locations everywhere; ready for use 24 hours a day, every day in the year. There are hun- dreds of other telephone booths in buildings, stores, hotels, gas stations, airports, railroad end bus sta- tions, etc. You are always near a public telephone. Instructions as to how to use it are displayed on or near each 'phone.
PARTY LINE COURTESY . . . When several persons share the use of a telephone line, consideration and courtesy are important to all. Everyone will enjoy better service if each one will be reasonably brief . . . space calls so the other party can place his calls .. . and give up the line for emergency use.
TELEPHONE DIRECTORIES
Telephone directories distributed from time to time by the Telephone Company remain the property of the Telephone Company, shall not be mutilated, and shall be surrendered upon request or upon the de- livery of the subsequent issue.
DIRECTORY ACCURACY ... Even though every effort is made to compile this directory. accurately, errors sometimes occur. The Company assumes no liability for damage arising from errors or omissions în pub- lishing this directory. Please raport incorrect listings promptly so that we may change our records and do whatever we can to protect your service In the meantime.
AVOID CALLING WRONG NUMBERS .. . Calling wrong numbers, resulting in inconvenience and loss of time, can be avoided if you consult the current directory before placing a call and dispose of obso- lete directories.
INFORMATION SERVICE . . . Telephone numbers which do not appear in the current directory may be secured by calling "Information." When you get a number from "Information," jot it down in your personal list for future use.
ATTACHMENTS TO DIRECTORIES . . . No binder, holder, insert or auxiliary cover or attachment of any kind not furnished by the Telephone Company shall be attached to or used with the directories owned by the Telephone Company, except that this prohi- bition shall not apply to a subscriber-provided binder, holder, insert, or auxiliary cover which con- tains no advertising and which is not so attached as to impede reference to essential service information or otherwise interferes with service.
OUT-OF-TOWN DIRECTORIES . . . Telephone direc- tories of other cities in this country and certain for- eign countries can be obtained for our customers. Prices, etc., may be secured from the Business Office.
TELEPHONE COMPANY "EXTRAS"
CONDUCTED TOURS ... We enjoy playing host 10 groups on conducted tours of our buildings. If you would like to tour our facilities, we'll do our best to make the arrangements.
PROGRAM AIDS FOR ORGANIZED GROUPS . . . In- teresting programs on telephone subjects can be arranged free of charge. Described below are the two main types of programs.
LECTURE DEMONSTRATIONS . . . Telephone speakers can be booked for all kinds of meetings. Talks in- clude information on many new exciting develop- ments In the world of communications and other timely subjects. Ask for a list and description of the many fascinating programs.
TELEPHONE MOTION PICTURES . .. Many entertaîn- ing and informative sound-motion pictures on tele- phone and scientific subjects are available free of charge.

2. LISTEN FOR THE DIAL TONE. Then dial the number promptly and accurately. If you do not hear the dial tone, hang up for a few seconds and try again.
3. TO DIAL A NUMBER-Turn the dial until your finger touches the finger stop and allow it to return to its normal position for each letter and figure of the number.
