Library Report.

The hearty interest taken in our library, reported one year ago, is fully maintained. The books have a wide circulation through the town, from fifty to seventy-five being taken out each week. Some of our oldest citizens, those who have seen more than fourscore years, are among the constant readers, down to the boy and girl just entering the flowery paths of literature. The library numbers five hundred volumes, not including books of reference. We have had from the state during the past year a roster of the soldiers and sailors who served the government during the Rebellion ; also the proceedings of Congress when the statues of Stark and Webster were unveiled.

Again we have been remembered by friends from out of town. Mrs. C. H. Bell, Exeter, presented the library with two volumes, Bench and Bar of New Hampshire ; also History of Exeter and Harper's Magazine complete for 1894 ; Col. E. H. Gilman, of Exe- ter, three large volumes on geology ; Mr. Templeton, the honored editor of the News-Letter, a volume treating on tuberculosis.

With a just appreciation of our library, we hope as the years go by we can note a steady if not a rapid growth.

Annual School Report.

TO THE CITIZENS OF NORTH HAMPTON :

Never has there been such a demand for better books, better methods, better training for the children than at the present day. Men and women are giving time and thought in planning how they can place before the young minds that which will best prepare them to make their lives successful. - The world is asking for better edu- cated men and women - morally, physically and mentally. It wants men of truth, honor and integrity ; women of education and virtue, who can make homes and train mortal beings for beyond the skies. Money invested which will aid to this end will pay the highest interest. Parents would be great helps in this direction if they would visit the schools and work in sympathy with the teachers ; become acquainted with their children in the school as as well as in the home; study the methods used and suggest improvements.

Our state makes laws that the School Board shall supply every- thing needed for the children. As a town we appropriate our money very freely for that purpose. But if the parents would insist that their children be punctual in their attendance, as far as possi- ble, if they would speak a kind word for the teachers, it would go far toward better results.

Our schools in town show good work done the past year. We have had hard-working, conscientious teachers, who have given their time and labor unsparingly. While we, by no means, claim perfection, we aim for the best.

Our school-rooms are in good order and have been well cared for by the children. The seats in the Grammar room at the East

16

District are very uncomfortable for the scholars. We hope you will grant us at the annual meeting an appropriation sufficient to reseat it.
