PUBLISHERS' NOTĘ.

The Keene City Directory was first published by the present proprietors in 1877.

It has since been published biennially, making the present volume the tenth edition and the twentieth year of its existence. The general plan of the work is substantially the same as former editions, yet considerable new matter has been added to the present volume. The street directory has been carefully revised and the numbering of streets largely extended.

The street map appears in a new draft from latest surveys by our competent engineer, Mr. Samuel Wadsworth.

By request of many citizens the Chronology of Keene has been inserted and brought down to 1894.

A healthy growth of the city is indicated by the increase in the list of names, as well as the census taken by our canvasser. With thanks for past favors, we present the volume to the public with the hope that it may prove as satisfactory as foriner editions.

Keene, April, 1895.

STREET DIRECTORY. (Revised by Samuel Wadsworth, Surveyor, 29 Beaver Street.)

The Street Directory gives the location of each street, and shows what other streets or places run from it, or across it, with the number at which they intersect.

From this list the location of any number on a street can be easily ascer- tained. For instance, wishing to know at what part of Court street No. 191 comes, turn to Court street, and you will find that Cross street enters at No. 175 and Iligh street at No. 213, showing that No. 191 comes on the right side of Court street, between Cross and High.

Also, multiplying the number by ten, gives the approximate distance from the head of the street, in feet. Thus, No. 264 Court street is about 2610 feet from the Square, or one-half mile. All odd numbers are on the right side of the street, and even numbers on the left.
