THE SENTINEL PRINTING COMPANY, PUBLISHERS OF THE KEENE EVENING SENTINEL AND NEW HAMPSHIRE SEN- TINEL, AND BOOK AND JOB PRINTERS. The New Hampshire Sentinel was established in 1799 by John Prentiss. The first issue ap- peared March 1. Mr. Prentiss retained an interest in it until 1847. Through successive own- erships by firms and individuals, the Sentinel has grown from four small pages until it has reached its present size of ten pages, or seventy columns. During the '50s the American News, edited by Samuel Woodward, was united with it. In 1890 a daily edition was begun. The Sentinel was first printed in a low wooden building on Main street near the corner of Winchester street. After a few months, the office was removed to a building north of what is now Lane's block. In 1816 it was transferred across the street, and in 1825 was taken to Prentiss's (now Whitcomb's) block. In 1871 it was moved to the Bank block, and in 1893 it first occupied its present quarters in the Sentinel Building.
