TOWN OF TAMWORTH.

TO THE TAXPAYERS OF TAMWORTH.

On the following pages will be found the financial condi- tion of the town to date. The appropriations for 1903 in all departments proved amply sufficient with the exception of that for bridges. The sum of $400 was appropriated for bridges, and the expenditures have been $2,728.20; $2,328.20 in excess of appropriation. Early in May our attention was called to the condition of Butler's Bridge, and upon investigation found the structure to be in an unsafe condition. Accordingly a new steel structure was ordered, to cost $1200. At the same time steel beams were ordered for Mill Brook bridge, costing $156. The John Sanborn bridge was entirely rebuilt and the Fowler Mill bridge furnished with new abutment and 3 stringers. In October our attention was again called to the unsafe condition of the Bartlett bridge. After examination by experts, it was deemed best to put on a steel structure, which was completed in December at a cost of $710. With one or two exceptions, we believe that the bridges are now in good condition and safe.

While your Board has expended $2328.20 on bridges in excess of appropriation. you will readily see that the expense of the Butler bridge and the Mill Brook bridge, amounting to $1356, were defrayed from the actual appropriation of our last annual meeting. The town has on hand about 3 M bridge plank, and we would recommend that the sum of $400 be ap- propriated at the annual meeting for bridges.

FRANCIS P. REMICK, GEO. F. BATCHELDER, FRANK P. EVANS, Selectmen of Tamworth.
