Miss Lucy C. Martin of Haverhill, Mass., was en- gaged to teach this school for the first term, but after teaching one week she was taken sick and was not able to resume her work, so this school really had but one term this year. In the fall Miss Caroline J. Crosby of Methuen, Mass., was engaged to teach and she taught

twenty weeks with only a recess of one week. This is the smallest school in town as to numbers, but no school in town showed more improvement during the year than this one. One little boy only seven years old, Frankie D. Hoyt, in his examination in geography answered seventy-eight questions without missing one, and his answers to questions in Colburn's arithmetic were equally good. All the classes did well.
DISTRICT NO. 10.
Miss Lizzie D. Hartford of Manchester, taught this pleasant little school both terms with satisfaction to parents and profit to the scholars. Good order was maintained in the school and promptness and accuracy characterized all the examinations. In this school may be found some of the best readers in town. Appended is roll of honor and statistics.
Respectfully submitted,
WM. C. BARTLETT.
Superintendent of schools in Salem, N. H.
