Report of the Librarian.

To the Board of Trustees of the Wolfeboro Town Library, Gentlemen :

The tenth annual report of the librarian showing the work of the library for the past year is herewith presented.

If the growth of an institution is indicated by the in- crease of work necessary in carrying it on, the trustees and citizens may be congratulated on the growth of the Public Library.

There have been 17,155 books and periodicals loaned dur- ing the year of these classes, fiction, 8,560 ; non-fiction, 3,342 ; children's books, 5,253. A larger percentage of non-fiction

34

WOLFEBORO TOWN REPORT

books has been circulated than for several years ; 490 books have been accessioned, making a total of some 6,000 volumes in the two libraries.

As formerly books have been sent in lots of 100 to the schoolhouse at South Wolfeboro for distribution, and in lots of 25 to Huggins hospital. We have started a similar station at East Wolfeboro, which if the interest warrants will be- come permanent. At the request of the Brewster Trustees, a special department for the Town schools has been added. We have introduced a new card on which non-fiction books may be loaned for four weeks without renewal.

By the death of Mrs. Fannie M. Newell, the library lost a true friend. The large collection of foreign photographs which she arranged on the walls was much appreciated. It was her intention to replace these with others of current interest as long as the European struggle should last.

The following is a statement of the money taken at the desk during the year :

R. station.

The librarian extends thanks to the Trustees for the co- operative and sympathetic interest in her work.

Respectfully submitted, ELIZABETH BREWSTER,

Librarian.
