PUBLIC SCHOOLS OF THE CITY.
The city has eleven school districts, forty-three schools, thirty- five school-houses, fifty teachers, and about four thousand scholars. Districts Nos. 2 and 3 maintain schools through the year ; Nos. 4, 5, 7, 10, and Il, through three-fourths of the year, and the remaining districts only one-half of the time. District No. 2, embracing the city proper, has six large brick houses, af- fording accommodations for twenty schools ; and seven wooden houses which are occupied by ten schools ; No. 10 has two houses, in which are three schools, and accommodations for two more; No. 11 has two schools in one house. The remain- ing districts have each but one house and one school.
