APPENDIX .- ADVERTISEMENTS.

V. B. PALMER'S

COUNTRY NEWSPAPER

ADVERTISING AGENCY,

TRIBUNE BUILDINGS, OPPOSITE CITY HALL, NEW-YORK.

EMBRACES MOST OF THE BEST NEWSPAPERS OF ALL THE CITIES AND PRINCIPAL TOWNS IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA, FOR WHICH HE IS THE DULY AUTHO- RISED AGENT, TO RECEIVE ADVERTISEMENTS AND

SUBSCRIPTIONS, AND FULLY EMPOWERED TO GIVE RECEIPTS.

THE Subscriber respectfully invites the attention of the Merchants, Manufacturers, and busi- ness community of the city of New-York especially, and the public generally, to his extensive Agency for most of the best journals throughout the country, for which he is the accredited Agent.

Although his office was destroyed by the fire of the 5th of February last, in the conflagration of the Tribune Buildings, his files of newspapers are again renewed, and every facility afforded to those who desire to avail themselves of the opportunity which his agency offers. His office is now in the Tribune Buildings, and nowhere else in New-York ; and he wishes it distinctly so un- derstood. As he has no connection with any other person in this agency, he requests that all orders and communications intended for his Agency be addressed to

New-York, Feb. 5, 1816.

V. B. PALMER, Tribune Buildings, New-York.

From the New-York Daily Tribune, Feb. 9, 1846.

NEWSPAPER AGENCY .- Men doing business can hardly afford to do a little, or can only do it at & disadvantage to themselves and their customers. The city merchant who sell: $100,000 worth of goods per year, at ten per cent. profit could far better afford to sell $500,000 worth for good pay at five per cent. In the natural course of things, the great Commercial Exchanges of our country will concentrate into fewer and fewer hands, consisting of those who possess ability to conduct them with the greatest advantage to their customers.

Extensive Advertising, on the part of those who really possess superior facilities for doing business, is one of the most important instrumentalities whereby this concentration is to be ef- fected. The merchant who has the means of doing business and knows how to advertise, can never expend too much therein. And by means of the system of Conjoint Advertising, devised and rendered practicable by Mr. V. B. Palmer through his Newspaper Agency, the expense to each advertiser is immensely reduced without depriving the journals employed of their fair re- ward. A business man may learn through his Agency just what journals to advertise in to reach effectively and cheaply the sections wherein his Trade may be extended. This Agency, which Mr. P. has been several years patiently employed in building up, richly descrves the united and energetic support of the Business Public and the Press, for to both it must prove highly bene- ficial. A dozen different Agencies could not do them half the good that one may, if generally supported.

APPENDIX .- NEW-YORK STREET DIRECTORY.

THE STREET DIRECTORY

0 F THE CITY OF NEW-YORK.

(Corrected May 19th, 1846.)

Entered, according to Act of Congress, in the year 1846, by JOHN DOGGETT, Jr., in the Clerk's office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New-York.

EXPLANATION.

If you wish to find the location of any dwelling house or store,-for instance, No. 80 Allen- street, on consulting the Street Directory, you will observe that 68 Allen is on the right-hand of that street and on the corner of Grand, and 88 Allen on the right-hand corner of Broome : hence the desired number, 80 Allen, will be on the right-hand side of Allen-street, between Grand and Broome.

Or suppose that you are going up Broadway and wish to take a cross street so as to call at 128 Bowery ; on examination (see Bowery) of the corner numbers in the Bowery, you will observe that 127 Bowery is on the corner of the Bowery and Grand ;- hence, by passing from Broadway through Grand-street to the Bowery, you are opposite to the desired number, (128.)

NOTE .- The streets above Twelfth-street are divided by Avenue 5th, into East and West-as East Thirteenth, West Thirteenth-and the streets located as above described will be found, therefore, in this work, under East and West. Some have supposed that Broadway divided these streets into East and West-but, it is a mistake.
