A well-attended Sunday-school has been kept up in con- nection with this church most of the time since its organiza- tion.


BIOGRAPHICAL.

GEORGE AHL was born in Orangeville, June 15th, 1864. January 1st, 1878. be married Ella Wood, born at Warsaw, Heptember, 57th, 1807. Mr. Ahl bes been a farmer and cheesemaker. He has been superintendent of the Orange- ville cheese factory since 1877. His father, Joba Abl, was born near Stras- burg, France, in 1817, and emigrated to this State in 1886. He was a tailor. and first located in Buttalo. From 1807 be lived on his farm on lot 80 in Orangeville. He died January 28th, 1872.


HENRY V. BENSON, son of Artemus Benson, was born August 28th, 1886. on the same farm where be now resides, and has always lived in the town. He was married January 7th, 1848, to Esther M. Head, a daughter of Hon. John Head, of Orangeville. She was born in Orangeville, December Zist, 1887. They have two children-Helen M., born April 27th, 1848, and Frank H., born November 16th, 1809. .


WILLIAM BUCKEL was born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England, July Zend, 1777. He came to America at the age of nineteen, and remained in New York city a few years; then emigrated to Genesse county (now Wyoming) and settled in the town of Orangeville. He resided there until about a year previous to his death, which occurred at Redford, Mich., February 19th, 1066, while he was on a visit to his daughter. He was then seventy nine years of age. He was twice married-first to Persis Bay. June Mod, 1708; sbe bore him one daughter (Jane) and died July 8th, 1808. His second wife was Mary Coburn. They were married October 20th, 1868, and both lived many years, surrounded by a family of seven children, three boys and four girls, viz .: William, Thomas, Esekiel, Persis, Susan, Esther and Mary. All of these are living except Thomas, who died July 19th, 1804, and Esther, who died Feb- ruary 18th, 1878. Mr. Buckel was among the earliest settlers in the part of Genesee county which is now Wyoming. He was a member of the M. E. church of Orangeville many years, which connection was only severed by his death.


CYRUS Comvar was born in Vermont, March 28th, 1800. ' His parents re- moved from Essex county, N. Y., in July, 1818, to lot &8, Orangeville, then an unbroken wilderness. When a young man Mr. Coburn bought and cleared a farm on lot:se, where he lived until his death, July 18th, 1878. In 1867 be built a bingle-mill and turning latbe on bis farm, which is still worked part of the time. He was a leading member of the Presbyterian church of Orangeville nearly fifty years. 'He was married January 6th, 1886, to Han- nah, a daughter of Simeon Morse, of Orangeville. She was born in Greene county, N. Y .. November 19th, 1808, and came with ber parents to Orange- ville in 1834. 8be still, with the assistance of ber sous Clifford and Franklin, carries on the homestead farm. Mr. Coburn's children were Calvin L., born November 5th, 1886, who died March 28th, 1864; Clifford M., born July Hist, 186 ; James F., born December 8th, 1839; Lucy, born July 10th, 1866, the wife of William F. Walker, of Catarast, Wie. ; Norton, born May 27th, 1800, died March 28th, 1867; Mary, born April 6th, 1841, died September 6th, 1844.


WILLIAM H. CORT was born in Orangeville, March 28th, 1861, and was mar- ried February 4th, 1884, to Uretta D., daughter of Marsball Hutobinson, of Orangeville. He served in Company G, 9th N. Y. cavalry, the last nine months of the 'civil war. After marriage be lived several years in Illinois and Iowa. He is a builder and contractor.


HENRY DIZOW was born in Chatham, Conn., May 9th, 1811. From 1816 be was on a farm in Bethany, Genesee county, N. Y., until 1867. wben be located on a farm on lot 58, Orangeville. In 1800 be removed to Johnsonsburg. His father. Charles Dixon, was a native of Connecticut, and previous to bis re- moval to Genesee county was a seafaring man. Mr. Dixon was married May 27th, 1866, to Mrs. Harriet A. Dixon. a daughter of Hiram Porter and born in Connecticut, Marob 10th, 1823. Hiram Porter was born in Colebrook, Conn., December 18th, 1797, and in 1839 came with his family to Johnsonsburg. From 1847 be lived on a farm on lot 58 until 1803, when be returned to John- consburg where he died May 6th, 1876. He had spent much of his life in mechanical pursuits. He was married October 10th, 1819, to Nancy Francis. a native of Durham. Coun. She was born November 1st, 1786, and is still Living with ber daughter, Mrs. H. Dixon, of Johnsonsburg. Mr. Porter roared nine children, all of whom came with him from Connecticut to Orangeville.


CONRAD H. DIVERS was born December 25th, 1811, in Stillwater, Sussex county, N. J. There be learned the tailor's trade. In 1834 be came to Be- tavia, and in 1847 to his present farm on lot E7, Orangeville. He was mar- ried October 5th, 1844, to Sarah Butler, a daughter of Jeduthun Butler. of Orangeville. They have two children, Allen B. and Martha O .; the latter the wife of Lyman Blakely, of North Java.


ALLEN B. DIVERS was born in Wethersdeld, this county, July 15th, 1846, but has lived in Orangeville since 1847. He was married October 80th, 1817. to Mary Chaddock, of Pike. He was a teacher several years, but since his marriage lies beso a farmer. For the last four years be has been deputy aberiff.


GEORGE HALL DUNHAM has always lived in Orangeville, where he was born November 14th, 1828. In September, 1847, be graduated at the State normal sobool at Albany, and be was a teacher many years. He was town superintendent of common sobools from 1849 to 1868, and from 1857 was sobool commissioner for the county seven years. He has also been farming and datrying on lot 50, where be has lived since 1860. He is now in the insur- ance business, his farm and dairy of thirty-five cows being managed by bis two sons. Mr. Dunbam was married in April, 1800, to Louies T. Virgin. of Warsaw. She was born in Waterford, Saratoga county, N. Y., September 20th, 1894, and is the eldest daughter of John and Betsey Virgin, who settled in Warsaw in 1887. They have three children-Geantfrede D., born January 6th, 1861. married November 30th, 1871, to ElI T. Cleveland, of Rockford, Ill., and died April 10th, 1806, aged twenty-nine years : Frank 8., born March zod. 1884, and married February 28d, 1876, to Clara A. North, of Attics, N. Y .; and Fred. H., born October 20th, 1881. Mr. Dunbam's father, Simeon, jr., came from Hebron, Conn., to Orangeville with his father, Simeon, in 1815, and located on Jot 44. He was married in 1818 to Julia Porter. He died of a cancer in January, 1860, aged thirty-five years. His widow married Reuben Stone, and died (also of cancer) in January, 1869. Julia Porter, who became the wife of Simeon Dunham and the mother of George Hall Dunbar, was born in Colebrook, Conn., in December, 1706, and came to Orangeville in 1.09. George H. was their second child, their first being Alonso, who was born in October, 1819, and died in October, 1899. Their only other child, Franklin, was born in June, 1828, and died in April, 1868.


BURDEN DURFEE, son of Ephraim Durfee, was born in Orangeville, May 2ist, 1814. He married Clara D. Pease, of Orangeville, a native of Washing- ton county, N. Y., May 6th, 1889. Since then be has lived on lot 38, bis farm consisting of one hundred and fifty-six sores. His first wife died April 17th, 1847, and on July 18th, 1848, be was married to Alvers Trucsdell, of Warsaw. who died March 14th, 1887. September 3d, 1857. Mr. Durfee married Mrs. Mary Moore, a native of Orangeville. He bas always been a farmer. Nel- son J. Durfee, his only child, was born August 12th, 1810, and is now in


EARL DURFEE was born in Orangeville. January 25th, 1818, and married Bozana Potter January 20th, 1844. She died March 2nd, 1866, and Mr. Durfee . was married to Louies Jane Potter June Zend, 1866. The children (all bora in Orangerille) were Mary J. Durfee, born March 29th. 1867; George W. Durfee, April 8th, 1860, and Lydia Cora Durfee, June 10th, 1883. Mr. Durfee moved on to his homestead in 1844, where be lived up to the time of his death, March &d, 1809.


MARVIN N. FARGO was born in Warsaw village, January 26th, 1867, and was married May 4th, 1848, to Hannah Devings, who was born in Collins, Erie county, N. Y., December Mod, 1818. In 1849 Mr. Fargo began farming on lot 4, in Orangeville. He sold out, bought a farm on lot 28, and lived on it from April, 1800, until his death, May 25tb, 1887. A portion of bis time Jatteriy was spent in making electro-magnetic machines. Mrs. Fargo now carries on the farm with the assistance of ber son. Her children are Albert A., born July 19th, 1849 ; Edwin, born June 29th, 1888, and Mary J., born July End, 1800, the wife of Martin Spink, of Orangeville. +


SYLVESTER FIELD was born in Springfield, Sullivan county, N. H., May SOth, 1867. In 1848, with his father's family, be emigrated to Sheldon, Wyo- ming county. He was married to Margaret Allen, of .Pembroke, Gonesse county, N. Y .. July 6th, 1866, and in 1886 removed to Hillsdale county, Mich. Six years later be returned, and has since lived in this county. His early life was principally spent in wagon-making. He served in Company H .. 199ch N. Y. volunteer infantry, the last three years of the Rebellion. H. bee beea keeper of the Wyoming county aims-house since Deceraber, 1878. His father, John Field, was born in New Hampshire, March 20th, ITP. and was a farmer in Sbeldon from 1848 until 1811. He then retired from sotivo business, and bes since lived with his son Sylvester.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTICES, TOWN OF ORANGEVILLE.


SYDNEY FOSTER was born in Warsaw. September 24th, 1848, and has always lived in the county. Hu was married to Mrs. Hannab A. Coburn, of Orange- ville. May 14th, 1878. Since 1874 be has been a farmer and mechanic in Orangeville.


HENRY GRIFFEN, the oldest son of Jacob T. Griffen, was born in Elbe. Genesee county, N. Y., June 16th, 1826. He was married April 11th, 1869, to Rachel E. Crawford. of Orangeville, a native of Saratoga county. Since May, 1860, be has been farming on lot 19 in Orangeville. He owns a steam Mw-mill and in connection grinds coarse grain. This mill was built by Mr. Griffen and others in 1862. and in 1874 became the property of the former. Mr. Griffen has been a justice of the peace over twenty years. and has held other oficer. His children are : Hannah M., born January 11th, 1860, the wife of William D. Wolcott, of Wethersdeid: Hortensie E., born July 3d, 1858; Charles B., born July 2ud. 1867, and Henry E., born February 5th, 1806.


ISAAC GRIFTEN was born in Elba. Genesee county, N. Y., September 29th. 1881, but since infancy bas lived in Orangeville. He was married May 16th, 1665, to Hannab Hand, of Hartland. Niagara county, N. Y., who died July 14th, 18N. He has always been a farmer. and occupies the old homestead on lot 10. He has two children, Oren A., born July 7th, 1866, and Mary L., born October 28th. 1858. Mr. Griffen's father, Jacob T. Griffen, born in Dutchess county, N. Y., August 9th, 1799, came, when nineteen, to Elba. Genesee county. He was married to Bathebeba Butler. of Orangeville. June 5th, 1834. She was born Muy 17th, 1800, and died April 14th. 1874. In November. 1881. Mr. Griffen removed to lot 10, Orangeville, where be has since remained. He has reared seven children. all of whom are still living. He has been as- sessor of his town for six years.


DAVID HALL was born February 24th, 1884. and reared on the same farm which be now owne and occupies.on lot 19. He has always been a farmer and dairyman, and has beld the offices of assessor. collector and supervisor. He was married November 1st. 1800, to Rebecca A., youngest daughter of Joseph Head. of Orangeville. She was born in Orangeville, May 10th, 1806. Their children are Carrie, Maud, Anna and Burton.


WILLIAM HALL, the father of David. was born in Portsmouth, R. I., July 21st. 1798, and at the age of five years removed with his parents to Madison county, N. Y. In 1828 be came to Orangeville. December 4th, 1824. be mar- ried Anna Butier.and continued to work on the farm of her father. Phineas Butler, until the latter's death, in 1886. He then had possession of the farm until be transferred it to his son David, with whom he is now living.


GEORGE HOY was born in the county of Monaghan, Ireland, March Ist, 1882, and emigrated to this State in 1849. He lived three years cach in East Bloomfield, Ontario county, and Pittsford, Monroe county. In 1856 be Jo- cated on lot 44, Orangeville, and remained nine years, when be rented his farm of two hundred and twelve acres, and removed to Johnsonsburg. In the spring of 1861 be built a cheese factory there, and began making cheese He now owns and superintends eight cheese factories in this county, and several dairy farms in Orangeville. He was married March 28th, 1868, to Lucy C. Stone, of Orangeville.


ALONZO HUTCHINSON was born in Ware. Hampshire county, Mass., April 12th. 1815, where he was married June 25th, 1840, to Sophia Babbitt, of the same place. In October, 1889. be removed to Orangeville, where be bas since lived. He has been making cheese several years, and has charge of the Orangerille Center branch factory. He was postmaster at Orangeville Cen- ter from 1862 to 1876, aud has been town clerk sixteen years. He has one daughter. Ellen M., born March 25th, 1842, the wife of Erotas H. Wilder, of Wethersteld.


MARSHALL.HUTCHINSON was born in Ware, Hampshire county, Mass., January 13th.1812. In 1885 be abandoned the shoemakers' trade, and became a farmer on Jot 28. Orangeville. After several purchases and sales of real estate in this town, be settled permanently on a farm of two bundred and sixty acres on lot 54. There be died April 3d. 1873. He was one of the most successful dairymen of Orangeville. He often beld town offices, and wasan esteemed member of the Presbyterian church of Orangeville. He was mar- ried April 8d. 1886. to Lucinda W. Babbitt. of Ware, Mass. She was born March 9th, 1816. and died in Orangeville February 2nd, 1875.


EPHRAIM J. JOHNSON was born in Johnsonsburg. January 15th, 1894. and has always lived there. He is a grandson of Levi Johnson, the founder of the village. Mr. Jobnson was a mechanic until 1857. since which date be bas been engaged in general merchandising at Johneonsburg. He has been three times supervisor. His father. Harvey Johnson, was born in Connec- ticut. In 1708, and was in business at Johnsonsburg from 1819 to his death, July Ist. 1809. He was married to Busan Jackson, of Madison county, N. Y., about 1819. She died March 29th. 1802.


JOHN L. LEWIS was born in Exeter. Kent county, R. I., May 1st, 1811, and at the age of seven came with his parents to Orangeville. He was married January Ist. 1839, to Lois Squire, of Orangeville, and in 1866 bought one bundred acres on lot 30, where be bas since been farming and dairying. He has been town clerk two terms. He has six children-Beda O., born January 2nd, 1840, the wife of G. W. Spring, of Orangeville : Mary E., born October 17th, 1841. the wife of Myron D. Palmer, of Wellsville, N. Y .; Ladd J., born December 2nd, 1845, now at Grand Rapids, Mich .; Frank E., born June 16th. 1868 : William H .. born July 20th, 1866. and George H .. born July 4th, 1862. His father, Moses Lewis, was born in Exeter. Kent county, R. I., September 20th, 1779. In 1818 be located on lot 56, Orangeville, and was a farmer in this town until his death, September 25th, 1800.


WAKEMAN LOCKWOOD was born in Java, this county, June 27th, 1827. In March. 1802, be bought and removed to his present farm on lot 57, which he has since carried on. He was married February 19th, 1850, to Lydia Eddie, who died July 18th, 1874. In the spring of 1875 be married Mrs. Rosetta Tut- tle, who was born in Orangeville. December 7th. 1811. Mr. Lockwood's children are Florence, born August 22nd, 1856, and Hattie, born September 80th, 1861.


ASA PECE, the oldest son of Benjamin Peck, was born in the town of Mil- ton. Saratoga county, N. Y., January 10th, 1816. and came with his parents to Wyoming county in 1818. In March. 1822, they located on lot 4 in Orange_ ville, where Mr. Peak carries on farming and dairying. He was married July 28th, 1841, to Betsey Mckinsey. of Orangevilie, who was born in Essex county. N. Y., August 29th, 1814. Their children are Benjamin A., born No- vember 21st, 1818, and John A., born Marob 14th, 1830.


BENJAMIN PECK was born in Connecticut, April 14th. 1701. In his youth his parents removed to Saratoga county, where he learned the distilling business, and where he was married to Urana Bouton, May 27th, 1815. In 1818 be removed to Perry, Wyoming county, and afterward to Warsaw. Jn the spring of 1822 be bought and removed to a farm on lot 4. Orangeville. where be remained until his death, June 23J, 1813. His wife died June 28th. 1802.


WILLIAM A. SPINK, son of Whitman'Spink. was born in Shaftsbury, Vt., October 2nd, 1816. In 1831 be, with the family. removed to lot 45. Orange- ville. He was married January 22nd. 1889, to Eliza J. Johnson, and in 1847 be bought and permanently located on a farm of one hundred acres on lot 48. His wife was born in Attion, February 26th, 1819, and died September 80th. 1874. His children are Euphemis H., born May 22nd. 1848, and married to Amos Otes 2nd, of Warsaw, March 17th, 1864 ; Daniel W .: Zemira M., born September 24th. 1848, and married to John Q. Lindsey, of Attica, December 8th. 1808; Frances M., born December 27th, 1849, and married November 9th, 1809, to Austin W. Lathrop, of Warmw.


DANIEL W. SPINE. Sod. the only son of William A. Spink, was born in the town of Attica. July Jet, 1845, but has lived in Orangeville since be was two years old. He was married February 9th. 1871, to Ella M. Lawrence, of Orangeville. who was born in Hartland. Niagara county, N. Y., May 21st, 1861. Mr. Spink carries on the homestead farm on lot 46. He has been dep- uty sheriff, and was a lieutenant in the olst regiment, national guards.


JONATHAN O. SPINK was born in Orangeville, February 18th, 18'8. His father. Allen Spink, came from Vermont to Perry. Wyoming county, about 1827, married a few months later. located on lot 47 in Orangeville, and bas since lived in the town most of the time. Jonathan O. was married November 22nd. 1800. to Lovina, daughter of Alfred S. Wilcox. of Orangeville. He was a farmer until May, 1877. wben be began store and hotel keeping at Orange- ville Center, where he still continues. He a justice of the peace and post- master.


REUBEN STONE Was born in Hancock. Mam .. January 26th. 1790. His father, Russel Stone, born in Guilford, Conn., January, 1759, died in Green- ville, N. Y., December, 1802, aged forty-three. His mother, Lots Stone, born in April. 1760, at the same place, died in Livonia. N. F. Russel Stone, the father, was in the war of the Revolution with the Connecticut militia. At the battle of Stillwater he was wounded. Reuben Stone left Hancock, Mass., in 1780 or 1791, with his father's family, and settled in Greenville, N. Y. He. with bis brother Joel, came to Livonia in 1809 or 1810. In September. 1818, be came to Orangeville and settled on lot No. 28, a parcel of the farm of nearly four hundred acres on which he lived more than fifty-five years, and where he died April 11th, 1869, aged seventy-nine years. In September, 1815. be married Mies Almira Merrill, daughter of Noab Merrill, of Orangeville, a soldier of the Revolution. Sbe was born in Colebrook, ConD., June 18th. 1782, and died December 22nd. 1881, aged thirty-nine years. Their children were seven. Two died in infancy. Luis, born July 18th, 1816. is now the wife of Obadiali Tilton, of Orangeville: Harvey, born February 14th, 1818. is now living in Orangeville: Sarab. born October 28th, 1820, married Lester Sparks, of North Plains, Mich., April. 1854, and died in January, 1878. at Portland. Mich .; Lucinda, born September 28th, 1826, married Hiram Smith, of Orange- ville, in 1851, and died in 1862; Caroline, born December 22nd, 1828, is now liv- ing in Wabaunsee, Kansas. In April, 1832. Mr. Stone married Mrs. Julla Dunbam, of Orangeville. To them two children were born-Edwin, born April 17tb. 1883, now owner and occupant of the homestead. and Lucy, born January 22nd, 1838, now the wife of George Hoy; of Orangeville, of cheese factory fame. Mr. Stone was a leader and worker in the organization of the town. the placing of public roads and schools, and in the organization of the first Presbyterian church in the town. of which be afterward became a useful member. He was one of the earliest dairymen in the town, selling bome manufactured cheese as early as 1828. He spent bis declining years with mental faculties unclouded, among firm friends, and at home on the old farm.


HARVEY STONE, a son of Reuben Stone. was born at the geographica center of Orangeville. February 14tb. 1818, and was married February 20th 1840. to Eliza Lewis, daughter of Truman Lewis, of Orangeville. He then bought and settled on part of the old homestead on lot 28. In 1844 be sold out bere and bought a farm on lot 58, where be still lives. He has always been & farmer and dairyman. He was twelve years justice of the peace, super- visor in 1855, and was elected session justice of the county two terms. His children are : Almira A., born August 20th, 1841. the wife of George L. Par- ker. of Auburn. N. Y .; Morris L., now of Kansas. born August 8th, 1843. and married to Frances E. Stanley February Ist. 1867 : Truman L., born July Ist, 1836, and married to Helen Lewis, Decomber ist, 1875.

EDWIN STONE, the youngest son of Reuben Stone, has always lived on bis present farm. He was born April 17th, 1838. and was married January 1st, 1866. to Emma Crawford, of Wethersfield, who was born in Ontario county. September 11th, 1887. Mr. Stone has always been engaged in farming and datrying. and owns two hundred and sixty acres- the old homestead-which be purchased after the death of his father, in 1880. He has two daughters- Julia, born March 18th, 1863, and Beesle L., born October 10th, 1872.


OBADIAH TILTON. son of the pioneer, John Tilton, was born in Orange- ville. January 27th, 1817, sad excepting about five years has spent his entire life bere, following farming and dairying. He was married to Lois, a daugh- ter of Reuben Stone. June 2od, 1841, and located on the south part of lot &#, but since 1818 has lived on the north part of it. In company with Peter Elerabart be owne a cheese factory on lot 49. He has been assessor nine years in succession, and was supervisor in 1870 and 1871.


OLIVER C. TILWOW, the youngest son of Jobn and Amarilla Tilton, was born in Orangeville, July 10ch, 1868, on his present farm. He was married October 80th, 1860, to Jane N. Johnson. of Orangeville. 8be was born in Gainesville, Wyoming county, September 10th, 1840. They have three obil- dren-Mary, born August 18th, 1806; Altie, born January 8th. 1874; and Owen B., born November 1st, 1878. Mr. Tilton has always been engaged in farm- ing and dairying.


TEBODORE WARREN was born at North Java, November 7th, 1847. He lived there until sixteen years old ; two years in Cattaraugus county, and since then in this county. He was married January 80th, 1874, to Helen Calkins, who was born in Sbeldon, May 7th, 1868. Mr. Warren has been a practical cheese-maker since the spring of 1867, and now superintends the Boler factory, on lot 15, where be has been employed since 1875. His father. Orson Warren, was born in Sbeldon, December 1st, 1816, and excepting two years has always lived in this county. He was married in 1844 to Julia A. Martin, of Warsaw, a native of Onondaga county, where she was born February 18th, 1899. Mr. Warren was a shoemaker until 1854, since which time be has been making cheese.


HENRY WEEKS was born in Kennebec county, Maine, November 4th, 1829. For several years after 1882 the family lived on lot 17, Orangeville, after which they returned to Maine ; but about 1847 Henry came back to Orange- ville, and worked several years with William Eddie as a mason. In 1869 be bought and ocoupled his present farm. Besides farming be worked at bis trade part of the time. He was married July Ist. 1868, to Harriet Head, oldest daughter of Joseph Head, of Orangeville. She was born March 16th, 1881. They have one son-Charles E., born December 6th, 1866.


EPARAIK WHEELER was born in the town of Hartwick, Otsego county. N. Y., October 4th, 1810. His father, Spaulding Wheeler, came with bis family to Orangeville in March, 1815, Jocating on lots 29 and 80, where be carly engaged in the tanning business, which be followed for many years. Ephraim Wheeler has always lived in the town since 1815, carrying on the tanner and currier's trade in connection with farming, succeeding his father in the former business in 1886. He was married in Maroh, 1881, to Margaret
