NEEDICAN BROWN, JR., was born in Gainesville, July 15th, 1806. He was engaged in farming, teaching, cheese making. etc., until the spring of 1876. when he located on his present farm. He was married October fist, 1861, to Barab A. Wilder, of Farmersville, Cattaraugus county, where she was born March 11th, 1848. His father, Nebemiab Brown, was born in Tyringham, Mass., September #8th, 1798, removed to Onondaga county, N.Y., in 1807, and etace 1815 has lived in Gainesville. He was married in 1819 to Ursula Jemat- son, of Tyringham, Mass. She was born March 20th, 1800, and died in Gaines- ville, Marob Etnd, 1867.


JAMES L. BLODGET, son of Lewis Blodget, basalways lived in Wetbersdeld. He was born in September, Jak2, and graduated at Yale College. He is a civil engineer, but is now banking and dealing in real estate at Hermitage. He has been postmaster at that place since the early part of President Lin- coln's administration. He and his only brother, Horace Blodget, of Pike, are administrators of their father's large estate.


RICHARD LANGDON CHARLES was born in Fryeburg, Maine, September 1st, 1808. His father, Samuel Charles, and family removed to Orangeville in July, 2815, and soon after to Wethersteld, where he resided until his death. His mother was a daughter of Paul Langdon, who graduated at Cambridge, and settled in Wethersfield about 1818. The early life of R. L. Charles was spent in farming and teaching. He was married April 4th, 1867, to Sabina M., daughter of Daniel Stowe, who came to Wetbersdeld in 1818, where he died in 1842. Mr. Charles was engaged in tanning and shoemaking with his brother-in-law, Sidney Stowe, at Hermitage. from 1861 until 1846, when the latter business came into .his hands, which be still follows at the mme pisos. He has been sobool commissioner. town oleri and justice of the poson.


WILLARD CHAMPLIN was born in Willing, Allegany county, N. Y., An- trust 80tb. 1857. In 1866 be removed to Wisconsin, and in 1867 began farming, lumbering and trading in Ocsans county, Mich. He was the first merchant and business man at the present thriving village of Hesperior, where be souured the establishment of the post-office. He served six months in the &d Michigan infantry in 1864. He was superintendent of iron works in the car department of the Pacific Railroad three years. He returned to this State, and was married November 1st, 1871. to Mrs. Jerusha M. Foster, of Wethersdeld, where be has since resided, engaged in farming. Mrs. Obam- plin was born in Wethersfield, May 16th, 1866, and is a daughter of William H. Mead, a native of Morristown, N. Y., wbo located on lot 56, Wethersfield, in 1808, where be died March 17th, 1870, aged sixty-six years.


JONATHAN COLLINS was born at Warehouse Point, Conn., November 9th, 1818, and soon after removed with his parents to SpringDeld, Mass. In 1886 be located otra new farm in China. this county. He was married April 5th. 1840, to Julia Parker, born in Arcade, March 9th, 1800. In 1856 Mr. Collins removed to Alexander, Genesse county, and in June, 1878, to his present farm of one hundred and seventy-five sores on lots 9 and 10 in Wethersdeld. He has followed bee keeping more or less for the past forty years.


JOHN J. DOOLITTLE, son of Ormus Doolittle, was born in Wethersfield, February 5th, 1836. For several years be followed merchandising at Weth- ersteld Springs, in connection with farming. Since 1809 be bes been speou- lating and dealing in real estate. He has hes been supervisor of Wethers- Beld, and beld most other town offices, and was Assemblyman in 1889. He was married October 9th, 1849, to Jane A. Thompson, a native of Manches- ter. Eng., and in 1889 removed to Geneva, where be was three times elected supervisor.


CHARLES DRESHER Was born in Nassau, Germany, September 2nd, 188%, where he was six years in the army. He was married July 18th, 1869, to Catharine New, and the same year came to Warsaw. He served the last three years of the Rebellion in Company E, 186th N. Y. infantry, and par- ticipated in twenty-one engagements, receiving one wound. In 1867 he re- moved to Wetbersfeld, and in the fall of 1875 be located on his present farm of one hundred acres on lot Z7. Mr. Dresber has been a class leader of the United Brethreer Church at Wethersfield Springs two years.


VENISON D. EASTMAN was born in Middlebury, February 17th, 1814. and April 12th, 1886, married Clarisen P. Shattuck, of that town, who was born December 22nd, 1817. Immediately afterward be settled where he now lives. He has been a successful farmer and datryman, and justice of the pesce twenty-six years, and associate judge of the county three years. He was instrumental in establishing his school district in 1842, and the Odd Fel- lows' lodge at. Smith's Corners, of which he was a leading member. His ·father, Nathaniel H. Eastman, a native of Connecticut, Lived in Middlebury from 1812 until his death, July 80th, 1898. He was a soldier in the war of 1812.


CHARLES D. FARMAN Was born in New Haven, Oswego county, N. Y .. November 20th, 1820, and married Lydia Wright, of that place. January 20th, 1886. Soon afterward be removed to Genesce county, and in 1814 engaged in rope making in Gainesville. In 1862 be bought part of his present beautiful homestead, which has been increased to one hundred and ninety acres. In 1861 the rope making gave way to dressing tow for upholstering purposes. which business amounts te $20.000 annually. Mr. Farman hes hold several town offoes, and hes twice been supervisor.


SAMUEL A. FARMAN is a native of New Haven, Oswego county, N. Y., born December 8th, 1816. In early life he was a dry goods clerk. From 1866 be was at Fillmore, Allegany county, until August, 1808, when he callsted as lat lieutenant in Company F. 180th N.Y. volunteer infantry. He was diecharged in 1885 on account of disability. He was married April 19th, 1083, to Barab A. D'Autremont, a native of Friendship, Allegany county, N. Y., born De- osmaber 18th, 1888. Soon after leaving the army Mr. Farman located at Hermitage. In 1835 he bought the " Benedict store," enlarged and remod- eled it, and carried it on for fourteen years. The stock, though not the building, was transferred to other parties in the spring of 1878.


OMARLAS C. FORNOBOOK was born in Lysander, Onandega county, N. Y., February ad, 1884. In 1848 he came to Pike, where be was employed several years in threshing machine manufactories. He was married April 4th, 1800, to Mary E. Willey, of Eagle, and since the spring of 1864 hes carried on blacksmithing at Hermitage ; has been a descon of the Baptist church since 1096.


AUGUSTUS GETTY was born in Pembroke, Genesse county, N. Y., April 16th, 1881, and removed to Atties in 1882, where be was married April 1st. 1945, to Lacy Smith, a native of Batavia, born May 6th, 1886. In 1858 he removed to Granger. Allegany county, and in the spring of 1868 to his present farm of one hundred and thirty sores. He has reared five children. four of wbom are still living. His father. William Getty, died in 1821, and in 1843 his mother married Asa Farman. He was born in Vermont, in December, 1786, and was a soldier in the war of 1828, soon after which he came to the Holland Purobase, and is still living at Attics. Mrs. Getty's mother died in June, 1882.


HUDSON GERASON was born in Byron, Genesee county, N. Y., November 20th, 1808, where his father, Daniel Gieseon, was an early settler. In 1883 he came to Orangeville, and was married to Diantha Brady, of Castile, May itb. 1837. In the spring of 1009 be bought one hundred and serenty-eight acres on Jot 55 in Wethersdeld, which he has since improved and ocoupled.


IRA GRANGER WAS born in Salem, Washington county, N. Y., October 28th, 1819, and came with his parents to Warsaw in 1822. In 1898 the family settled on a Dow farm in Gainesville, where Mr. Granger was married Feb- ruary 20th, 1844, to Hannah, daughter of Nebeminh Brown, of the mme town. In the fall of 1845 be located at Wethersfield Springs, where be was successively grocer, saw-mill proprietor and cheese maker until December, 1871, when he bought his present farm. His father, Ephraim Granger, was born in Vermont, in 1706. married Sally Granger in 1814, and was a resident of Gainesville from 188 until his death, in 1868.


AREEL HAMMOND was born in Elba, Genesee county, N. Y., January 2th, 1834. In 1868 his parents removed to Cariton, Orleans county, and in 1839 be came to Gainesville, where he was married to Nancy Reynolds February 18th, 1847. The next spring he loosted on lot 51 in Wethersfield. Farming and stock dealing has been his principal occupation. He has beld several town offices, being assessor fifteen years. His father, Stepben Hammond, was born in Massachusetts in 1781, and was a sailor eleven years. He mar- ried Huldah Russell, of Vermont, about 1808, and thereafter lived in Genesee and Orleans counties until his death, in 1838. His wife died in Michigan in 1878.


CALVIN F. HAMMOND, proprietor of the Sodom saw-mill, was born in Springfield, Essex county, N. Y., September 10th, 1837. In 1884 his parents removed to Genesee county, and in 1886 to Sheldon, where Mr. Hammond was married December 2th.1860. to Rezaville C. Putnam, of Orangeville. In 1868 be settled in Wethersfield, and in 1874 where he now lives. His principal occupation has been that of a millwright and sawyer. He has been a justice of the peace for the past sixteen years.


JORN HOMER was born October 15th, 1884, in Germany. In 1868 be emi- grated to 8beldon, and two years later to his present place. He wasa farmer until 1865, since which time, with the exception of three years spent in the grist-mill at Johnsonsburg, he has been constantly employed in the North Wethersfield Mills. He was married October 16th, 1866, to Laura Dayton, adopted daughter of John Bundle, of Wethersfield. She was born in Potter county. Pa., May 8th, 1883. They bave six children.


CHARLES A. M.AROW has always lived on his present place, where be was born August 20th, 1865. He was married September 19th, 1876, to Terees T. Cusack, of Java. She was born January 20th, 1868, and for several years previous to marriage was a tesober. Mr. Mason is assessor. His father, Thomas Mason, came from Ireland, where he was born in 1809, and for sov- eral years was engaged in lead mining at Galena, Ill. In 1840 be married Mary Kavanagh, of Ireland, and located on lot 60, Wethersfield. There be died January 8ist, 1882. His wife died December 28th, 1872.


CHARLES A. MEAD was born in Morristown, Morris county, N. J., Jan- uary 80th, 1808. and removed with his parents to Warren county, N. Y., in 1815, where he was married December ad, 1884, to Clarisse Lake, of that county. She was born in Vermont, May 7th, 1801. In the fall of 1848 Mr. Mead removed to Wethersteld, and in the spring of 1868 to his present farm. He has always been a farmer. His wife died June Ist, 1678.


GUT MORGAN, BBQ., came from Wethersfield. Hartford county. Conn., to lot # of this town in October, 1814. He married Nancy Griswold, of Con- nectiout, in 1806, by wbom be had nine sons. Bbe died in Waterford, Conn., in 1868. He was a magistrate several years. About 1838 be removed to Ohio, where he was elected county judge.

JUSTUS MORGAN, the eldest son of Guy Morgan, was born in Wethersfield, Conn., May 2nd, 1807, and has been a resident of Wethersfield, Wyoming county, since October, 1814. He was married February 28th, 1827, to Celestia Picket, of this town. He has beld several town omces, serving two terms as supervisor. He lives where he located in 1862. His wife died September 89th, 1878, in her seventy-third year.


LEWIS J. MORGAN, son of Justus Morgan, was born in this town, Novem- ber 19th, 1835, and was married December 80th, 1808, to Clarisse, daughter of Vinson D. Eastman, of Wethersfield, where she was born December 6th, 1846. Mr. Morgan bas lived on the old homestead of three hundred and fifteen acres since 1858, and now owns it. He has been collector and as- cessor. His children are Belle, Frank, Vinson, Mary and Maria.


GUY P. MORGAN, the eldest son of Justus Morgan, was born in Wethers- feld, September 14th, 1880, and was married February 7th, 1854, to Sophia, daughter of William Wolcott, of Wethersfield. She was born September 24th. 1886. In the spring of 1864 be bought and located on his present farm, which now consists of two hundred and ninety-dve acres, and is managed by Mr. Morgan and his son Augustus. Since 1872, wben be built a large store in Hermitage, be has also been engaged in the hardware trade. Re has two children-Augustus W., born November 19th, 1854, and Flora A., born January 2nd, 1808, He has been collector, assessor, justice of the peace for the past eight years, and session justice two terms.


LUCIUS D. MORGAN, also a son of Justus Morgan, was born in Wethers- feld, July 24th, 1837, and has always lived in the town. He was married Jan- uary &d, 1800, to Mary A. Eastman, of the same town, and in 1861 located on lot 39. In the spring of 1867 he bought bis present farm. His wife died No- vember 18th, 1878, and on February 4th. 1875, he was married to Augusta J., daughter of George Peck, of Orangeville.


ALFRED G. NEELY, son of Franklin B. Neely, is a native and life long resident of Wethersfield. Hewas born December 7th, 1886. He served in Company H, 186th N. Y. volunteer infantry, the last three years of the olvil war. He was married July 25th, 1865, to Maria E. Wolcott, of Wethersdeld. where she was born May Send, 1841. Since the spring of 1887 Mr. Neely bas lived in Hermitage, connected with the firm of Neely, Wolcott & Co. in the manufacture of lumber, cheese boxes, barrels, etc. He was elected town clerk in 1870 and 1871, and supervisor in 1815 and 1876, and has held other omDoes.


. WILLIAM H. PAGE, second son of William Page, was born in Chester, Warren county, N. Y., February Send, 1817, and at the age of seven years, came to Wethersfield with his parents. He was married January 30th, 1887. to Hannab Parish, of Java, and soon after he located on a farm at Wethers- fleld Springs. About 1849 be removed to Hermitage, and was engaged in general trade a quarter of a century, and succeeded by his son, Frank A. Page. As supervisor of the town be disbursed nearly $12,000 for military bounties. He was a captain under the old military law for many years. His wife died September 1st, 1848, and he was married December 8th, 1868, to Mary E. Herrick, of Watertown, N. Y. She was born in Fairfield, Herkimer county, February 16th, 1819. William Page was born near Grecawich, Conn .. August 19th, 1784, and was married in 1818 to Ruth Mead, of Conneo- tiout. In 1884 be removed with his family from Warren county, N. Y .. to lot 14, Wethersfield. He died November 15th, 1871. His wife died April 10th, 1868. He was a soldier in the war of 1812, and subsequently had command of a company of militia.


ALBERT PARISE was born in Java, October, Ist, 1886, and was married Jan- uary Ist. 1861, to Lucy A. Skinner, of Wethersfield, where she was born Feb- ruary lith, 1887. He remained in Java, farming, until the spring of 1871, when be removed to Wethersfield, and two years later located on his pres- ent farm on lot 47. He is now constable and collector. His father. Joba Parish, settled on the east line of Java in 1816. He was born in Connecticut, October 18th, 1796, and was married to Mary Teft September 22nd, 1816. He lived in Java balf a century. In 1887 be removed to Hornellisville, where be died May 21st, 1809.


JOHN R. POTTER, dairy farmer, was born in Galway, Saratoga county, N. Y., January 14th, 1814, and came to Wethersfield with his father's family when two years of age. He was married February 16th, 1886, to Mary M. Cookvon. of Chautauqua county, who was born February 3d, 1814. Mr. Pot- ter was supervisor in 1800 and 1861 : has served as assessor nearly twenty years and held otber offices. He has been salesman of the Hermitage cheese factory since. 1806. His father, John A. Potter, was born in Rhode Island in 1771, and removed to Saratoga county. N. Y., in his youth, where he was married to Esther Sweet. In June, 1815, he came to Wetbersfeld, and bought and improved a farm on lot 12, now owned by J. R. Potter. Here be lived until his death, October 31st, 1822. His wife died bere in 1840.


JOHN PALMER RANDALL was born in Wethersfield, in 1834, and has always lived here. His wife is a daughter of Stephen I. Mosher, an early settler in Wethersdeld, and was born in 1889. Mr. Randall was a farmer several years after his marriage: then traded at Hermitage about four years. In 1867 be erected a fine two-story building on the corner opposite the present hotel, where be sold clothing, boots and shoes, etc., for a few years, when he sold the business and stock to Martin Grover, but retained the building, the upper story of which is occupied by the Good Templars. Mr. Randall has been twice supervisor, and was appointed sheriff on the death of Sheriff George Wilder. His father, David Randall, was a native of Voluntown, Conn., born April 11th, 1796. and located in Wethersfield in October, 1816. Ho married Emma Palmer, of Bridgewater. Oneida county, N. Y., February 11th, 1800. He lived in the town until his death, January 20th, 1877. His wife died February 26th, 1809.


MORGAN L. REED, & lifelong resident of Wethersteld, was born March 6th, 1817, and was married October 8th. 1887, to Margaret Sherman, of the same place. She was born in New Jersey, August 29th, 1822. Soon after bis .marriage Mr. Reed bought and settled on part of his father's farm. where he still lives. He has been a deacon of the Baptist church since 1858. His father, Israel Reed. was born in Saratoga county, N. Y., May 17th, 1786, and in the spring of 1815 located on lot 18, Wethersfield. He was married May 18th, 1816, to Sally Cure, of Saratoga county. He died bere April 16th, 1847. His widow is still living in the town, in her eightieth year.


ALEXANDER R. RICHARDS, wagon maker at Hermitage, was born in Lima, Livingston county, N. Y., December 10th, 1881, and came to Wethersfield with his parents in March, 1889. He was married October 27th, 1861. to Jean- nette B. Kimball, of Java, where she was born December 6th, 1848. Mr. Richards located in Hermitage about 1864. His father Alpheus Richards, was born in Lima, January Sud, 1808, and was married February 14th, 1831, to Mary Chapman, of Warsaw. He located on lot 20 in Wethersdeld in 1869; was a shoemaker at Wethersfield Springs from 1680 until 1878, since which time he has resided with his son in Hermitage. His wife died August 20th, 1875, aged sixty-four years.


LE ROY SMITH was born in Sidney, Delaware county, N. Y., July 12th. 1848. His father, Solomon Smith, was born in Bennington, Vt., in 1770, and was married in 1806 to Betsey Palmer, of the same place, where she was born August 5th, 1785. He removed to Delaware county, N. Y., in 1812, and thence to Pike, Wyoming county, in 1834, where he died March 12th, 1883. His wife died in Wethersfield, March 8th, 1871. Le Roy Smith located in Wethersdeld to 1840, and on bis present farm in the spring of 1872,' He was married Sep- tember 14th. 1866, to Mary Johnson, of Wethersfield. She was born in Gainesville, September 21st, 1846. Their children were John D., born October 18th, 1867; Bay L., born May 5th, 1869 ; Palmer L., born August 6th, 1878; Clayton, born December 80th, 1876, died September 16th, 1878; Hattie, born April 80th, 1879.


ALLIN M. STARES, son of Deacon Jobn Starks, was born in Batavia, N. Y., September 17th, 1848, soon after which his parents removed to Orange- ville. He was married January 80th, 1887, to Emily L. Murray, of Steuben county, where she was born December 11th, 1844. He enlisted August 15th, 1802, in Company D., 180th N. Y. volunteer infantry, and served through the war. In December, 1866, he came to Wethersfeld, and in the spring of 1875 located on his present farm. His children are John M., born August 12th, 1889: Earl R., born January 9th, 1874 ; George 8., born June 80th, 1877.


NELSON E. TORREY was born in Java, March 1st, 1832. At the age of eighteen be removed with his parents to Wethersdeld, and worked at farm- ing thirteen years. He was married Maroh 7th, 1868, to Laura J. Blakeley. of Concord, Erie county. She was born in Java, July 20th, 1884. From 1868 until the fall of 1809 be kept hotels at Wethersfield Springs and North Java. after which he was farming again until January, 1877, when he became pro- prietor of the grist-mill at North Wethersdeld, which be still owns and operates. His father. Alvenus Torrey, was born in Vermont. January 5th, 1708, and located in Java in 1824 ; removed to Wethersfield in 1849, and soon to Mt. Morris, where be died in October, 1803.


PLINY A. WARREN, youngest son of Ammi Warren, was born in Sheldon, June 9th. 1881, and was engaged principally at farming in that town and Java until the spring of 1875, when be purchased the hotel stand at Wetbers- fleld (Smith's Corners), of which he is still the popular bost. He wes mar- ried November 20d, 1857, to Martha Carson, of North Java. She died in March, 1872, and he was married January 4th, 1878, to Kate M. Garrety, of Java. she was born in Trenton, Pa., November &d, 1845. Mr. Warren served in the 9th N. Y. cavalry from September $7th, 1864, until June, 1865.


ALLEN W. WEEKS was born in Orangeville, March 31st, 1844. He served from August. 1802, in Company H, 186th N. Y. volunteer infantry, till the close of the Rebellion, and was honorably discharged June 20th, 1805. Ho was married March 20th, 1879, to Mary Ahl. daughter of John Abl, of Orangeville, since which time be has been making cheese at Hermitage.


DANIEL B. WHIPPLE was born in Orangeville, May 27th, 1848, and in youth was a teacher. From August 18th, 1888, he served in Company H 186th N. Y. volunteer infantry through the civil war. He was married May 25th, 1866, to Harriet E. Butler, of Wethersdeld. She was born in Sheldon. March 15th, 1844. Soon after marriage Mr. Whipple removed to his present farm.


FRANK H. WILSON, son of Herman Wilson, was born in Middlebury, April 11th. 1887, soon after which his parents removed to Arcade, where he was' married to Ellen A. Jenkins, April 10th, 1869. Soon afterward be removed to Perry,and two years later to Wethersteld. He located on his present farm in 1880. Since youth he has been a butober and drover, and has for several years been the largest stock dealer in Wyoming county. He has been super- visor, and beid the omce of town auditor during its entire existence.


DANIEL WOLCOTT, EsQ., was one of the first settlers and most prominent men of the town. He was a son of Elisha Wolcott; was born in Wethers- feld, Conn .. January 29th. 1790, and was married in 1809 to Maria Morgan, of the same place. where she was born August 15th, 1786. In 1810 Mr. Wolcott came to Wetbersdeld and " booked " one hundred and fifty aores on lots 81 and 39, and in the spring of 1812 removed his family to this place, cutting bis way for a long distance through the forest to bis land. He died about 1800. By appointment from the governor he was commissioner of deeds for a few years; was several times assessor, town clerk and supervisor, and was justice of the peace fifteen years. He reared eight sons and two daughters,

most of whom are still living in the vicinity. Mrs. Wolcott still lives in the town, and was ninety-one years old on the 10th of August, 1879, when nearly one hundred of ber descendants, including the fourth generation, were pressot.


DANIEL M. WOLCOTT, the second son of David Wolcott, Esq., was born to Wetbersfeld, Conn.,October 20th, 1811, but has lived in Wethersfield, N.Y., since infancy. He was married October 8th, 1898, to Mary Willard, of Wethersdeld, Conn .. where she was born April 12th, 1809. She died July 12th. 1848, and on June Mod, 1848, be married Lucinda G. Wells, daughter of Dea- con Origen Wells, of Newington, Chan., born November 20d, 1834. Mr. Wol- cott bas carried on bis present farm since about 1804. No man living bas re- Cided to the town longer than be. He has beid several town ofloss. He has had dix children, viz .: Mary E .. boro December 11th, 1884, married Truman A. Hill November 20th, 1866, and died May 7th, 1570; Hannah M., born Septem- ber 18th, 1886, married Lucius L. Cory December 26th, 1800; Daniel W., born August 5th, 1888, died April Xist, 1841 : Laura, born April 20th, 1842, died September 1st, 1842; Barah L., born May 16th, 1844, married Truman A. Hill January Xist, 1878 : Emma A., born August Mth. 1845, married to Harrison H. Devinney, of Wethersdeld, November 28th, 1809.
