KUMBEL'S PATENT MACHINE STRETCHED
LEATHER BANDING
The only Patented Band in the United States,
Which has again been honored with the highest premium, a Gold Med- al, (and the only Bands which have ever received a Gold Medal in this country,) from the American Institute, at the Fair of October, 1849, after being severely tested in competition ; thus recognizing, from a most thorough, practical, and public trial, that rank and position which the manufacturing community has long since assigned it, as the best Leather Band Manufactured in the United States.
This Banding is made of the solid part only, of the best Oak Leath- er, is thoroughly stretched, cemented, and riveted, will run straight, and has a perfect bearing upon the pullies.
From the superior mode of its manufacture, it possesses remarkable strength and durability, beyond any Banding manufactured. It also excels, in its running qualities, any Band made upon other principles, or of other materials.
The Belt made of leather is the only one that can be relied upon to perform well in all situations. It neither molts with friction, sticks in the pullies, nor frets into shreds ; nor is it subject to sudden combus- tion and destruction ; all which are marked characteristics of Beltings made from gums.
The Patent Machine Stretched Leather Banding, as made by the Subscriber, will stand more heat, more cold, more friction, and is far more durable, than those above referred to, and for all practical pur- poses; it can also be made water proof.
The best evidence of its quality is its adoption by nearly all exten- sive manufacturers and machinists throughout the city and country, the River and Sound Steamers, and, with marked approbation, by the various lines of Ocean Steamers. Since its introduction by the Sub- scriber, it has revolutionized machinery to the general exclusion of gearing; and the approval of practical mechanics is further emphati- cally expressed by the steady increase in the demand for it from year to year. Every Belt is warranted to possess all the qualities requisite for durability and good performance, or the money returned.
They can be furuished of any length or width, from one to thirty inches, either single, double, or round.
Also, superior Lace Leather, with rivets, burrs, punches, sets, &c.

READ THE FOLLOWING LETTERS.
NEW YORK, October 1, 1850-I have made a chemical examination of the Vegetable Pow- der prepared by Mr. Emanuel Lyon, for the purpose of destroying insects, I do not find it to contain anything deleterious to health, or what may be considered poisonous to the human species ; but it is very destructive to insects, whenever they are forced to inhale the fine par- ticles or dust occasioned by throwing the Powder forcibly in places where they frequent. J. R. CHILTON, M. D., Chemist.
NEW YORK HOSPITAL, June 9, 1850 .- I have analyzed Emanuel Lyon's Magnetic Powder, for the destruction of Insects, and certify that it is entirely free from mineral or other corro- sive poison. As the result of my examination, I would say that it is a combination of various vegetable substances having a peculiar influence on the insect kingdom, and that it may be used with perfect safety. In reference to its utility, its effects are astonishing. I believe it to be a skillfully prepared substance, by which a valuable result is obtained, which does effect what Mr. Lyon says, and is well deserving of public patronage.
LAWRENCE REID, Prof. of Chemistry.
GIBSON HOUSE, Cincinnati, October 9, 1850 .- We procured of Mr. B. H. Meakins, some of Lyon's Magnetic Powder and Pills, and cheerfully certify as to its perfect efficacy in destroy- ing Roaches and Rats, within a few minutes after its application. It is the most simple, yet perfect remedy we have ever seen.
