ELIE CHARLIER'S French and English Institute

FOR YOUNG GENTLEMEN,

Boarding and Day School, Classical and Commercial,

Nos. 48 and 50 EAST TWENTY-FOURTH STREET, (New Nos. 126 and 128,)

NEAR MADISON PARK,

Between 4th & Lexington Aves.

....

THIS School is now in its Ninth year. Its Pupils are to be found at West Point, in the Navy School, in the Army, in the Counting House, many Colleges, and Professions.

The studies pursued embrace all the studies necessary for a liberal instruction. Pupils can com- mence when Six years of age in the Primary Department, and continue until they are seventeen or eighteen, ready for their future profession.

German, Spanish, and French are taught by native teachers. American pupils are obliged to speak French, the only way to acquire it in a foreign country.

As heretofore, I will devote to my school all my time and energy ; surrounded with excellent teachers, and all the resources presented by a large city, I will do my utmost to continue to deserve the confidence and esteem of my pupils' parents. Pupils are received as boarders. There is but one table for pupils, teachers, and myself.

Gymnastics, military drill, singing, and drawing are regularly taught.

Complete obedience, cheerful and prompt obedience, truth in everything, and work-such are my rules. I shall not fail to enforce them, even if I have to dismiss any pupil refusing compliance with them, or exerting an evil influence in the school. The classes in my institution may be visited at all times by the parents or guardians of the pupils.

It is a rule with my assistants and myself to accustom our pupils to use their powers of reflection and of reasoning throughout the course of their studies. We do not ask them to work beyond their powers, but require strictly the performance of their tasks; in a word, we wish them to exert them- selves conscientiously.

THE ACADEMIC YEAR, 1864-65, will extend from the 20th of September to the end of June, divided, for the payments, into two sessions. All bills payable in advance, semi-annually. Pupils are charged for the entire Academic year, except new pupils, who are charged from the date of their admission to the end of the school year.

Hours of attendance for Day Scholars .- From five minutes before 9 A.M. till 3 P.M. (with recess). In the Primary Department, pupils, if desired, may leave at 2 r.M.

A report of the attendance, deportment, and proficiency of the pupil, is sent to his parents at least once a month.

For all details, terms, and further information, see the Prospectus of the School.
