ARNOLD Brigadier General Benedict, in Eng- land; an intrepid warrior. who in many arduous and bloody conflicts, performed such gallant exploits and rendered such im- portant services to this his native country during her magnanimous struggle for free- dom and independence, as would have ren- dered his name illustrious in her annals and embalmed his memory to all posterity had not, alas, his subsequent conduct (produced by a rash and unjustifiable spirit for revenge for supposed injuries) cast an indelible stain on his once celebrated character,and damned it to everlasting fame. "The evils that men do live after them; the good is oft interred with their bones." Gazette of
