Washington County Business Directory.


WASHINGTON COUNTY


Located in the extreme south-western corner of the territory, is bounded on the east by Kane County, on the west by the State of Ne- vada, on the north by Iron County, and on the south by Arizona. Has an area of about 2,000 square miles. In the river bottoms of the Virgin & Santa Clara Rivers there are tracts of very productive farming lands, which from the warmth of the climate, yield fruits of a semi-tropical nature. These include tobacco, rice, cotton, grapes, bananas, oranges, figs, &c. The county contains but little timber land, the climate be- ing too warin for pineries, excepting in the highest mountains.


ST. GEORGE


Is the county seat of Washington County, 340 miles south-west of Salt Lake City. It contains some fine buildings, notably the temple. There is also a fine Tabernacle with a clock tower and bell. Population about 2,300.

This is the famous mining camp of Southern Utah, with a popula- tion of about 1,400. Its suburbs are rich agricultural districts which find a ready market at this point. A number of quartz and stamp mills are constantly running.
