Terms and Salaries of City Officers.


On the 25th of May, 1884, and every two years thereafter, the citizens of Richmond will be called upon to elect a number of city officers, to serve a term of years, besides electing the Common Council and a portion of the Board of Alderman, who have the selection of a number of city officials. As a matter of general interest, we give below the offices to be filled by the people and the Council, and the pay and allowances of each as nearly as can be ascertained, and their term of service.


ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE.


Mayor, for two years. Salary, $2,500. High Constable, for two years. Fees.


City Sergeant, for two years. Fees and allowances for feeding prisoners, and locking and unlocking them. This is paid by the State. He pays his dep- uties and jailers also.


Commissioner of the Revenue, for four years. Is paid in commissions by the city and State. Deputies and clerks paid by him.


Sheriff, for two years. Paid by fees, which have been cut down by Treasurer doing the collecting.


Clerk of Hustings Court, for six years. Salary from State, $1,000; city, SI,Soo; total salary, $2.Soo. Fees for liquor and marriage licenses, 75c. and SI each. He pays his deputies.


Clerk Chancery Court, for six years. Paid by fees for recording deeds and wills. He pays his deputies.


Clerk Circuit Court, for six years. Paid by fees.


Commonwealth's Attorney, for two years. Paid by the State in fees.


City Collector, for two years. Paid in commissions.


City Treasurer, for two years. Salary, $2,0.10, and is allowed a clerk at $1,350. City Auditor, for two years, Salary, $2,040. Is allowed a clerk at $1,350.

City Engineer, for two years. Salary, . $2,125.


Superintendent Gas Works, for two years. Salary, $1,680


Gas-Inspector, for two years. Salary, =1,350.
