With profound regret the Commander-in-Chief announces the death of Captain Leonard Guy Levy, Commanding Officer, Company C. Second Infantry, West Virginia National Guard, which occurred on the 17th instant, near Ashford in Boone County, West Virginia.


Leonard Guy Levy was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on the fourth day of October, eighteen-hundred-and-seventy-two.


He enlisted as a seaman in C Division of the Maryland Reserves in October, eighteen-hundred-and-ninety-four. Was appointed Coxswain on the first day of July, eighteen-hundred-and-ninety-six. He was hon- orably discharged May fifteen, eighteen-hundred-and-ninety-seven.


Having enlisted, as a private, in Company M, Second Infantry, West Virginia National Guard, on the nineteenth of September, eigh- teen-hundred-and-ninety-eighth, he was warranted a Sergeant on the twenty-second of that month and appointed First Sergeant on the eigh- teenth of August, eighteen-hundred-and-ninety-nine. In order to per- mit him to accept a Commission, he was honorably discharged on the twenty-sixth of June, nineteen-hundred and was commissioned Sec- ond Lieutenant on the twenty-seventh. Was promoted to First Lieu- tenant on the twenty-sixth of February, nineteen-hundred-and-five. He was commissioned Captain and assigned to Company C, Second In- fantry, West Virginia National Guard, December sixth, nineteen-hun- dred-and-ten ..


By the death of Captain Levy there is lost to the State an use- ful citizen, to the National Guard an accomplished officer, and to his comrades in the service a sincere friend and true gentleman.


The Officers of the Second Regiment will wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days.
