Wyoming is one of the largest oil producing states in the Union and the recent passage by Congress of the oil land leasing bill will release more than one million acres of as yet undeveloped territory. Goverment geolo- gists and experienced oil operators are unanimous in the belief that Goshen Hole-which lies just across the river from Torrington-will prove to be one of the richest oil fields in the State. A test well is now being put down just twenty miles south of this place. It is now down to a depth of 2,000 feet. Strata of oil and gas have been passed through, and these have been cased off to admit the passage of the drill to the richer fields which almost certainly exist below.
Torrington has a municipal electric light plant and water works, also a sewer system. Great interest is taken in education, the school equipment is up-to-date and instructors are carefully selected. She has an accredited High School, graduates being admitted to the State University of Wyoming. and other states. Five religious denominations have organizations, four of which have church buildings. Lodges are well represented, some with large membership.
