Our latest improved self-regu- lating Windmill was patented March 15, 1881; is warranted to be the best wind machine ever invented, very simple in con- struction, strong and durable, will pump more water than any windmill now in use, and once put up they require no attention whatever, except oiling. They are built to withstand and adapt themselves to the fury of the gale, as well as to light breezes, and to work steadily WITHOUT EXPENSE.

Our Horse Powers are complete in every detail, and possess every? improvement and advantage that can be combined in such machines. They are provided with air-tight, dust-proof, self oiling journals. Two men can take either of them apart and put them together with ease.

Tanks, Pumps, Pipes, Pulley, Shafting, etc., furnished to order.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY.

Of the choice locations for shipping and commerce this county has among the most favorable in the State, its entire northern and western borders being traversed by a line of the Central Pacific Railroad, along which the overland trains to and from San Francisco pass, while the waters of San Francisco Bay and the San Joaquin River that wash its shores afford access to all manner of shipping, from a fishing boat up to the largest ocean vessel.

Fruits and cereals of all kinds known to California climate, flourish here. Many large dairies are carried on in the hills, from which great quantities of milk are shipped every morning to San Francisco. There are also three extensive coal mines in active operation, from which many thousand tons of coal of good quality are annually taken.

Contra Costa has many pieces of picturesque and beautiful scenery. It can also boast of the most conspicuous mountain peak in the State-Mt. Diablo-to the summit of which there is a good wagon road.

Martinez is the county seat, beautifully situated on the Straits of Carquinez.
