SAN LEANDRO.
This place, situated on the Central Pacific Railroad, 16 miles southeast from San Fran- cisco, was originally and for a long time the county seat, the removal being only caused by the magnitude of Oakland's wonderful growth in population and material prosperity. San Leandro still retains the lead in population among the towns of the county, aside from the bay cities adjacent to San Francisco. It is loca-
ted on the creek of the same name, and is sur- rounded by fertile and productive fields, which have attained the highest reputation of all lands in the State in the production of vegetables for the metropolitan markets of San Francisco. It haa fair hotel accommodations, supports & weekly newapaper, and haa complete postal, express, railroad and telegraphic facilities.
