The Library of this Association is located in the City Hall, and already contains upwards of 4,500 volumes of Legal and other works, and is rapidly increasing. From its location it greatly facilitates the business of our Courts; and has become almost a necessary ad- junct to the transaction of Judicial business. During the past five months, over 3,200 vol- umes have been drawn out, to be used in the various Courts, and the benefits and influence of the Library are constantly extending.
The Association is incorporated under the law of this State, and is sustained by the monthly subscriptions of such as desire to avail themselves of its advantages. The objects of the Association are "to establish and maintain a Library of Literary, Legal and other professional works ; to promote the cultivation of Legal science, the advancement of jnris- prudence, the extending of literary influence and legal research ; and generally, the advance- ment and diffusion of knowledge, in its various branches."
This institution is the first and only one of the kind on the Pacific Ocean, and although still in its infancy, its Library will already favorably compare with those of long standing in the Atlantic States.
It originated in the private enterprise and exertion of WILLIAM B. OLDS, Esq., now the President of the Association, who is entitled to great credit for thus successfully estab- lishing in our City, an institution of so great importance, and which bids fair to be second to none in the Union.

The importance of employing an experienced Practical Architect, becomes each suc- cessive day more apparent, as parties now are rivalling each other in the BEAUTY and GOOD ARRANGEMENT of their BUILDINGS. Many here have employed me to re- arrange their buildings. My long experience in San Francisco, New York, and the principal cities in Europe, and having served seven years' apprenticeship to one of the most eminent Architects, qualifies me to solicit a continuance of the patronage from those invest- ing in building. I guarantee to get your buildings put up by contract, however plain or small, 50 per cent. cheaper than by the old expensive system of day's work.
