CHRIST CHURCH .- EPISCOPAL.

This second edifice of Christ Church was begun in 1827. The corner stone was laid May 13, 1828, and consecrated Dec. 28, 1829. The Church is built of freestone and is 121X feet long and 76 feet wide. It was the first speci- men of Gothic church architecture in this country. The first edifice was wood on op- posite corner to present, began in 1762, finished in 1786, and moved to Talcott st. in 1829. The first Chapel, of brick, was erected in 1836. TRINITY CHURCH .- EPISCOPAL .- 128 SIGOURNEY ST. Organized Sept. 12, 1859. The corner stone of the first edifice was laid Thursday, Oct. 27, 1860; and the church was consecrated in May, 1861. It was enlarged and improved in 1875. The last service was held in it Jan. 24, 1892, after which it was torn down to make way for a new church which is being built on the same site. This edifice will be 144 feet in length by 624 feet wide, with a square tower 152 feet high. In connection with this there has been already built as a Memorial and gift to the parish a Chapel and Parish house, which are used for services until the new edifice is finished. Edifice is situated on the corner of Wyllys st. and Hendricksen avenue. It was erected by Mrs. Samuel Colt as a memorial to her de- ceased husband and children, and was conse- crated to the worship of Almighty God, Jan- uary 28, 1869. It is built in the Gothic style, of Portland hewn stone finished with Ohio white stone, and is 114 by 47 feet, with a height of 60 feet, and a spire 150 feet high. Cost $200.000. This church was organized, and a house of worship erected, in 1820, on 141 Trumbull st., and enlarged in 1829. The new edifice is built of brick, with basement of Portland stone. It was commenced in May, 1859; finished and dedicated April 4, 1860. The whole building, from front to rear, aside from towers, is 95 by 65 feet in width. The audience room is 78 by 62% feet. Audience room contains 126 pews, and will seat, including gallery, 1,000 persons. The east tower is 12 feet square, and 66 feet high; west tower, an octagon, 16 feet diam- eter, 108 ft. high. Seats free. 512 members.

This Church was first gathered June, 1823, in Talcott street, and was destroyed by fire May 11, 1858. Their recent edifice was dedi- cated Dec. 14, 1851, and was destroyed by fire Jan. 24, 1875. Their present edifice was ded- icated Nov. 26, 1876; consecrated Oct. 4, 1884. The length from the outside of tower to outside of chancel, is 166X< feet, and the breadth is 78 feet; the height of tower and spire from ground is 216 feet; and cost $175,000. Seats for 2000 persons; 240 pews on main floor and 96 in galleries. About 5,000 members.

The building at this location, first occupied as a School House, then by Protestant Metho- dist Episcopal, and afterward rented as a Free Mission Chapel, was, September, 1859, pur- chased for Roman Catholic purposes, and an addition attached. It was dedicated by Bishop MCFARLAND, on Sunday, December 4, 1859. In April, 1865, a freestone structure was commenced, which is 75 feet broad and 164 feet long, and it is one of the largest church edifices in the State. Its entire cost, when completed, will be over $200,000. There are church sittings in the basement, which at present are used for Sunday school and church society purposes. About 4500 members.

The corner stone of this edifice was laid April 29, 1877. Consecrated May 8, 1892. The basement chapel was opened for divine service Feb. 10, 1878. It has six chapels, besides the main sanctuary and an auditorium 16 feet high and 280 feet long and has a senting capacity for 2000 persons.
