Department of Law
The Law School was organized in 1865. From 1898 to 1905 there existed also the School of Comparative Jurisprudence and Diplomacy, which was closely affiliated with the Law School, and had jurisdiction over the degree of LL. M., which before 1898 and since 1905 has been given by the Law School. For a few years the Law School gave the degree of L. B., as well as the degree of LL. B. Those obtaining either of these degrees are grouped together under the usual arrange- ment hy classes.
The most important courses of study that were formerly given in the Department of Compara- tive Jurisprudence and Diplomacy and its successors are now given either in the School of Law or in Columbian College. Jurisdiction over the dyree of LL. M. has varied from time to time as between the Department of Jurisprudence and Diplomacy and the School of Law, but for con- venience all those who obtained the degree of LL. M. are here listed under these two separate heads.
The School of Jurisprudence and Diplomacy became the School of Politics and Diplomacy in 1905, and was abolished in 1907. It awarded the degrees of M. Dip. and D. C. L. The Cata- logue groups those who received any such degree, under the head of the School of Jurisprudence and Diplomacy, the arrangement being hy classes. Commencing with 1908, these two degrees were awarded only in the Graduate School, and School of Political Science. All who so received them appear with the other graduates of those Schools.
