210
HISTORY OF SOUTHERN IOWA
Answer .- We cannot allow our members to belong to such or- ganizations. See " Revised Minutes of the Annual Meetings," page 154; also Eph. 5: 11, 12.
3. On account of the slackness of some in supportng the mis- sion cause, we ask District Meeting to devise some plan to create more of a missionary spirit.
Answer .- The elders and Mission Board are instructed to se- lect someone to visit all our churches and work up the cause by preaching missionary sermons; also to see the isolated as much as possible; expenses of same to be met from mission fund.
4. We ask District Meeting to consider the propriety of buying a tent for use at District Meetings and otherwise as the District may see proper.
Answer .- Deferred indefinitely.
5. We ask District Meeting of 1901 to reconsider Art. 5, 1897, last clause; also Art. 2, 1900.
Answer .- As a substitute for Art. 5, 1897, and Art. 2, 1900, we decide that the Mission Board has unlimited power for having the Gospel preached and tracts distributed.
6. Will District Meeting provide some plan to aid weak churches so they too can hold Sunday-school, Ministerial and District Meetings ?
Answer .- Decided that said weak churches have the privilege of soliciting those who attend said meetings for a free-will of- fering, and also to solicit other churches of the District for free- will offerings.
7. Would it not be well for the District Meeting of 1901, to urge the elders to carry out Art. 13, 1868, of Annual Meeting Minutes ?
Answer .- We so urge.
8. We ask this District Meeting to consider the advisability of starting an endowment fund for our District mission work, so we can have a more permanent fund to carry on the Lord's work.
Answer .- We favor starting an endowment fund, the interest to be used for mission work in the District, and the elders and Mission Board are instructed to appoint a solicitor for same.
9. We ask District Meeting to elect the members of the Mis- sion Board by ballot instead of by acclamation.
Answer .- As a substitute we decide that the elders with the members of the Mission Board whose time does not expire, shall consult and name to the meeting the member to be elected, for their adoption or rejection.
10. We ask District Meeting to make a separate fund for the Ottumwa mission and not use the funds of District mission for said place.
Answer .- Decided to separate our mission fund, giving all the

privilege to designate how their money shall be used, whether for city or rural work, or where needed; that not specified to go to general fund; this answer to include the endowment also.

Answer .- Decided to make no change.
14. We ask District Meeting whether it is in harmony with the Brethren church for its members to attend other churches and to be one or more of a chosen choir to do the singing with musical in- strument or instruments.
